It's a damn near masterpiece. Each song unique, but yet there's a theme, a vibe, a mood throughout, if you will. It's the first of the 90's trilogy. The others being Exodus, and The Gold Experience.

With you on that.

Loved Come from the moment I got it - fantastic album from start to finish and was like a final dirty postcard from one of the masters of lascivious and sexy songwriting

it's his best album since 96 East.

i'd like to qualify the brevity of this comment with The Gold Experience being Not Very Good.

His worst album next to NEWS. Uninspired, lifeless, and engineered to suck to boost the reputation of the prince moniker.

Love this answer. I love the album too. "Papa," is sad, and Prince does a great way of expressing that mood...Prince's has got feelings covered. cool

I love it. Very very flawed in a cringeworthy 90's kind of way, but definitely the best 90's album. I could never understand the love for the cornball gold experience.

Great Album!! The mixture of styles is just what makes P the master of his craft. The Space(Universal Love Remix) is so on point and perfect, I truly believe that it defines the word "LoveSexy". Absolutely, shows P's ability to get in your soul.

I never appreciated this album until 3-4 years ago. Then suddenly, it just clicked for me. Now, I love it!

I doubt that will ever happen with Chaos and Disorder or N.E.W.S. barf

Chaos and Disorder has come a long way for me. It took about ten years for me to actually go back and dig it especially I Like It There and the title track.

I really enjoy the "Come" album, each song has got a special way and style in order to bring me into another space..
I guess and that makes the richness of the album.
The album is sensual and warm, it rocks and waves, it hurts and caresses in addition to waves's sounds on a beach: Just as making Love.
If I was Prince, I would have called it " Invitation to a Love Journey..", as "Invitation au Voyage" from Baudelaire
I wish I had some live versions where Prince rearranges his notes for Pure Pleasure

No. Come is better than that cool

If you think Come is the worst, have you ever heard:

Kamasutra,
Newpower Soul,
The Vault.. Old Friends 4 Sale,
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic,
NEWS,
Xpectations,
One Night Alone... Piano,
Musicology,
3121,
Planet Earth

??

those are bad albums, or at least only half good.

Come is far better, you should give the album some more listenings,

If you do so, I am sure you would really appreciate Come.

Or maybe you should get The Dawn 3 cd somewhere.

Or The Beautiful Experience video.

Come is great, one of my fave Prince albums of the 1990s wink

I kinda dug those albums. I remember the day that I first brought "Come", I was like, "WTF". To me it sounded unfocused and confused.

I dig this album from start to almost finish. (There's just no need for me to listen to "Orgasm.") I think the album is brilliant and a masterpiece that heralded a new direction after D&P and the Symbol Album. It was a Dirty Mind for the '90s.

When I uploaded the CD to my iTunes I had to leave Orgasm off. The only time I've ever left a Prince track off.

So it just kind of abruptly ends? I suppose you could use the single version that has a fade on it, or put your own on it. I still need to edit "Temptation". I already took Larry Graham's chant out of "Everyday Is A Winding Road". It's SO much more listenable that way.

I remember someone once saying, when asked what Prince stuff they loved the most from the 80's, "Everything from 1979-1993, except the end of 'Temptation'." hahaha

There was even a thread about editing Prince songs for your own use (like the examples I brought up). Interesting read.

A deliberate artistic compromise on Prince's part to make the Gold Experience shine by comparison.

It was the first Prince album ever that I didn't like after 3 spins (except his debut album).

Today I like it enough I guess--but that's because his output in general during the first decade of this century has been so lackluster in comparison.

But it WAS "scaled down" somewhat and whilst I actually appreciate it for what it is, I do think the likes of Letitgo and Solo probably wouldn't have made it onto a "proper" Prince album.

I hear ya on that. Think about how Crystal Ball or Dream Factory were scaled down. What did we get out of that process? One of the best loved Prince albums in his discography.

For some reason, for me, COME is just .....well, dark and delightful. I'm watching a special on Dexter on Showtime right now. I thought, "Wow, COME would have been great music for the series in places." the very song "Papa" is SO spot on with this show, as is "Dark", and "Space", and even "Letitgo". I guess I just enjoy the darkness on that album. I don't want to be moody all the time, but there are moments when that album is just so perfect.

Agree. P doesn't really do "dark" these days. Where is the introspection? And "Dark" is a truly poetic and beautifully dark song.

Very true.

Come is a ok/good album album, but not a great one. It suffered from being
pared down for release. Personally I preferred it when the Come and Gold
tracks were mixed up a little (they were mostly recorded at the same time
anyway). In the end, 'Come' ended up featuring the more minimal solo tracks
and The Gold Experience featured the more band orientated tracks. For me,
the tracks come alive more when they're juxtaposed against each other,
rather than existing in their own separate worlds.

Isn't that the beauty of it though? Rather than mix the tracks up, the two albums become each others ying and yang. One more minimal, one more "open" and full with the band backing it. It seems that the mood of either was more cemented as they are now. I can't imagine listening to "Dark" or "Solo" next to something like "Now" or "Endorphinmachine". While I agree that his previous albums have that juxtaposition between one-man band and full-on band, and how the tracks pop. (Purple Rain is a good example of that, among othersj.) But with these two albums, both of which I think are just grand (Gold edging out Come a tad for me), they are just as they should be. But..to each his own, right?
