Weird but, i think it was 1999, because i made my own song up to the tune, but didn't realise i'd stolen the hook!!! until i became a fan and it all made sense - i think U Got The look was the first song that really caught my attention - but it wasn't until Batman that i actually bought the singles/album.

I stand corrected. The first time I heard Prince was in '91. I was five and saw him doing "Gett Off" on MTV. Granted, I didnt know who the hell he was. I just saw a person in bright yellow singing. I thought it was Disney. I didn't actually pay attention to what he said. LOL. I was confused about why his booty was showing though. booty! haha.

I would have heard Partyman and the rest of the Batman stuff when I saw Batman age 10. But my first memory of hearing a Prince song is Thieves in the Temple, which I saw on Video Hits, and my sister had on a compilation called Beat the Heat which also had Margaret Urlich. didn't pay much attention to it at the time.
Maybe i wasn't ready.

Then I saw the video clip for Cream. OH. MY. GOD. My life was changed forever.

1999. I was in 9th grade and I though it was so cool that a band named themselves "Prince".

My friends brother had a record collection. On saturday when he was gone we would go listen to Kiss, Prince, Aerosmith...etc. Stuff from his collection. He had the "Dirty Mind" album.

Soft & Wet. I've loved his music and him ever since. Bought the 45, don't remember what was on the other side. LOL Bought the album at first change. Now own everything he's put out there -- if I like it or not. Just want a complete library of his work.

I wanna be you lover! The last few min of the song is fantastc, great enough to be another song on it's own.

One day on WBLS I heard Franke Crocker(yes I'm old), say "this talented young man plays ALL THE INSTRUMENTS HIMSELF!" At that age I didn't even know that was possible. I knew he'd be a huge star with that kind of talent and I was a fan.
My friends would look at pics of him with the purple tank top, big hoop earings and laugh at him(and me for being a fan)
By 1986 they were all wearing Purple Rain T shirts, nobody was lauging anymore and I got to wear a big "I told ya so" Cool aid smile! biggrin

For me it was Sexuality and I was 7 - and i got my parent's to take me to the record store and it was the first 7" I ever bought.

Best part was telling the man himself and seeing his reaction - priceless or should that be princeless, lol.
