One Nite Alone... Live!

What do you guys think of this album?

I think it's very good, This really shows Prince as a musician.
The way he plays 'Joy in repetition', 'Peach (Xtend Jam)', Muse 2 the pharaoh' & 'Strange relationship' is just amazing. (And so are many more songs from the album).

which songs do you like and dislike from this album?

I like this album. Songs from TRC sounds amazing live and I like the whole "jazzy" sound. I don't mind there are some studio overdubs (who cares?), all 3 cds sound great. I only dislike few aftershow tracks - mainly horrible Musaq "singing" over "If You Want Me To Stay" bassline - WTF?!

I like it but very oddly (given the rap it gets) I prefer the TRC songs on the DVD then on the CD - I prefer the sound - not sure what's wrong with me.

I love a lot of the CD though - most of all Disc 3. When U Were Mine is a disappointment, whereas Strange Relationship is great. I love the long instrumental on Disc 1 (can't remember the title) and Avalanche is beautiful.

Then again, I love TRC so I was always gonna love this.

It's an oddity to me. I miss the sound of an audience as it seems like almost a direct feed (which is ironic as thats what most want when listening to some bootlegs lol). And though its technically good, it seems to be missing that 'omoomph'. And I was disappointed how he reworked Peach and 2 Nigs. Overall a grade B for something that could have been much better imo.Not that I 'hate' it, but its not something I play on the regular, but maybe once in a blue moon. I do admit I play the It Aint Over more than the two disc main set.

Brendan's review is classic though... and makes you actually realize how good it is. Brendan where you at?

Probably what it is that it the cd was recorded on DAT and mastered for cd. I remember it being a big topic of conversation here and on other sites.

I think it is great. The ONA show I attended in Cleveland renewed my love for Prince's music after a lengthy absence. While the album did not draw from the Cleveland show, much of the music was similar. The stretch at the end of disk two where he is performing solo with the piano is epic.

I am not a big fan of the studio version of TRC. However, I enjoy many of the songs as they were performed on ONA. Muse to the Pharaoh is a prime example. I can't listen to it off of the album, but I love it live.

The jazzy ONA tour has never been my fave,

I have seen Ålborg and Copenhagen 2002, good shows but not great imo.

and..... I have tried hard to like this live box set sad

Strange Relationship,
The Everlasting Now,
and of course: Joy In Repetition

these are outstanding cool

the rest... no. sad

but at least this ONA box set is a little better than Indigo Nights wink
