1/2 The Fan I Used To Be ...

I've been a fan of P's since 1996 and my "fandom" has not change. How many member of the org are not the fans they used to be with the "so called" actions of P as of late?

Well, take a moment and read. Your question has been greatly answered, almost daily. And remember, if you're asking if someone is less of a fan than they used to be, you're setting yourself, and those answering, up for a possibly "negative" response. But then again, what is negative? Is telling the truth that Prince has lost his mojo negative or the truth? If you want just sunshine and ponies, there's a few Orgers you could talk to directly that will give you that. Otherwise, negative is in the eye of the beholder.

I stopped becoming a fan in 1996 though still liked the music I had. I recently became a fan again and I have no complaints. Prince can do what he wants, it's his life and he's contributed more than enough in terms of art, music and controversy for everyone to have a whale of a time. So I'm not half the fan I used to be, I'm double.. cool

... point taken but what I expected from my fellow members was more adult responses, not saying that there are NOT adult responses to this kind of question but you can say that I was of felt compelled to ask this question. I'm a fan of P's art until the wheels fall off. I don't expect that he'll write a song about Sunni Muslims or Bisexual people from this point forward but since I've been a fan I have not been let down. There's been at least an album a year and if not that. There is a ton of music I can rummage thru to get my purple funk fix.

LoveSxy1958	I am still a fan 100%. Prince's music will never grow old for me. I have been a fan for over 20 years so I don't think his escentric lifestyle at times is gonna change that for me. I've been a fan all along...everyday, I just haven't paid any attention to a computer until about 5 years ago.

All I did was listen to the radio for Prince concert announcements, and listen to cd's at home. The computer makes it accessible to tell someone U are a Prince fan. cool

Last Night, I spent another lonely Christmas...Darlin' Darlin' U shoulda been there.~Prince.

I've always been a Prince fan... always. I liked MJ alot till Dangerous and after that I kinda lost interest in him a bit after meeting him. I still like to listen to both their music. I can truthfully say I am a bigger Prince fan than a MJ fan.

Still a huge fan, still buy EVERYTHING he puts out, even joined the club...

However,

With age, comes perspective...gone are the days of youth when I would go NUTS over a new release and waiting in line for tix...

These last minute announcements of concerts really piss me off...Prince, your fanbase is OLDER now, we got BILLS n shit. We can't drop our responsibilities to line up a concert trip to MPLS at the drop of a hat.

It's almost too much trouble than it's worth...just put out some new music. I'm happy with that.

MJ was a brilliant singer/dancer...best of all time, however, that's all he was. Let's not compare him to Prince, best musician of all time, but rather, compare him to someone like Sammy Davis Jr (who I don't hear anyone calling a musical genius).

Been a fan since '84 -use to be the fan that collected everything I saw and could/ couldn't afford- the vinyls, the tapes, the bootlegs, the protegees, use to fly to different cities to see Prince perform, got 3 prince tattoes including the love symbol on my left arm, and two other tats from the lovesexy era of the yes heart/superman symbol, and a tat of the arrow that reads new power soul on the right arm. Use to defend being a Prince fan to the death, use to hold my head up high, lol.

Presently tho I must say I'm not that fan anymore - I'm not interested in bootlegs unless its from 81-07 - not a fan of buying his music like before- didn't join the lotus fan club, tho I did join the npg fan club, since I work in the indiustry I can get music free but I would always support Prince music except this go round - this prince after Planet Earth bores me, and musicially I find his live shows un-inspired - actually what I do miss are the prerecorded background vocals he would use when he performed live - hey when was the last time he used prerecorded vocals was it during the 96 love 4 one another dates??

Kinda glad to say Planet Earth was the last music I bought from Prince- last concert I saw musicology (excellent live band)- couldve went to vegas but don't like this band at all!!

def not the fan I use to be, I would like to be if he released some music worth buying -

I hear ya. I actually left this place for a month (at the height of the PFU mess) after having been here for 10 years. Something (I don't know what) drew me back here, and in spite of my determination to remain calm and not let the negativity get to me--as it had in the past--I find it insufferable being here sometimes.

For me, being a Prince fan is a breeze compared to being an Orger! nod

If that statement labels me a "Purple Kool-aid Drinker" or some other ridiculous moniker that the haters like to bestow, then so be it. I know what I am and what I am not, and that's all that matters to me.

Yes and that is unfortunate. But, people will pick on others just because. If you guys ignore them, some of them will leave you alone. i'd say that at the moment my fandom is in a dormant stage. it's only natural. i'll occasionally put on a song or two when i'm cruising with a friend, but at the moment, i just really couldn't care less. i try not to pay attention to what Prince is up to, i don't really listen to him. it's probably best that way or i'd just end up completely over him.

that said, when LF came out, i was all over that shit for a couple months.
