Time for some math. Let's look up when each song was first released:

1999 - 1983
I Feel For You - 1979
Controversy - 1981
Sexy Dancer - 1980
Y U Wanna Treat Me So Bad ? - 1979

Take Me With U - 1984
Anotherloverholenyohead - 1986
Guitar - 2007
Raspberry Beret - 1985
Girl - 1985

All Day, All Night - 1987
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man - 1987
The 1 U Wanna C - 2007
Sometimes It Snows In April - 1986
Mountains - 1986

Partyman - 1989
Uptown - 1980
Let's Work - 1981
Kiss - 1986
Cool - 1981

All The Critics Love U In Paris - 1982
Cream - 1993
U Got the look - 1987

Now, to determine the average age of the songs played in this concert: determine the age of each song (year of concert - year of song's release), add all those number up, and divide by the number of songs in this concert.

2009 - ((
1983 + 1979 + 1981 + 1980 + 1979 +
1984 + 1986 + 2007 + 1985 + 1985 +
1987 + 1987 + 2007 + 1986 + 1986 +
1989 + 1980 + 1981 + 1986 + 1981 +
1982 + 1993 + 1987 ) / 23)

Let's use Google's calculator:
http://www.google.com/sea...+%2F+23%29

So the average age of the songs performed during this gig is: 22.8695652 years. Translation: on average each song played during this gig was about 23 years old. Which actually means plenty of them are even older, since this is an average. Two songs from 2007, one from 1993, and all others date back to the 1980s or even earlier.

For comparison: the average age of the songs performed for one of the Montreux gigs was 14.33333 years - see http://prince.org/msg/12/316300?&pg=4 .

Thanks for the info.

Very interesting.

I was at the 5pm only - agree with much of what has been said, my main problem with the sound wasn't the sound itself, but that Prince was so obviously annoyed that it affected the performance (~ a dozen comments, including changing Raspberry Beret to "they say the sound ain't the greatest...")

Otherwise it was amazing, Especially Anotherlover..., Mountains and Girl. I never in my life thought I'd hear Girl live, what's next, Darling Nikki?? I just wish more of the audience had caught on to how unique the performance of that song was, I could not believe my ears.I don't have a problem with him changing a word or two here & there (he did on both Y U want to treat me so bad and I feel 4U) if he can do Girl live...

The crowd around me (ca 7-8m from stage) was nice and enthusiastic but did not respond well to the cues. I think it's partly a language issue, I heard some people singing lyrics which did not make sense but sounded ~80% right. They probably don't all speak English very well, if they had understood what he wanted them to sing or do, I'm pretty sure they would have.

I'm really glad I made the trip, even though I missed much of the UK contingent - I was expecting to see more people from London! Lots of love to all nice frogs met during the day biggrin !

Hmmm, couldn't say so, he was annoyed but still playfull. I have to say that I love his sarcastic comments, he has such a strong humor, love it and the fire that came out of his eyes, I adore that.
With the harmonica player, "can you hear him? No? Talk to the soundman, he's French biggrin"
I thought that was sweet.

And you're right about the French not knowing the language too well, you could hear them sing the refrain very loud but not the rest of the lyrics but it didn't bother me because you just noticed the love in the room and Prince noticed it too. While I was singing along with almost every song you saw them looking at me very surprised but with a smile on their face, like, shit, she knows the lyrics, I don't lol
I've been to a Mylene Farmer concert some weeks ago and everybody sings along with the French lyrics, foreign language isn't their best asset but they're still cool as hell.

PARIS (AFP) – Paris is "erotic" and "inspirational", US pop star Prince said Monday after wowing city audiences in a venue never formerly used as a concert hall -- the landmark glass-and-iron Grand Palais exhibition centre.

Prince's Sunday concerts were last-minute affairs, organised in four to five days, after the 51-year-old artist visited and fell in love with the vast hall on the banks of the Seine river.

On Monday he met a small group of journalists, including AFP, in a chic Paris hotel. Following are excerpts from the hour-long chat.

ONE OF THE QUESTIONS HE WAS ASKED: Q: What did you think about the crowd last night?

A: Amazing. It is actually indescribable, that much love. They were very respectful. We asked that no one used camera phones and they honoured that request, unlike Americans who are so obsessed with technology. We don't like to have our concert filmed that way because it sounds so bad and then you give all the footage to somebody like YouTube who is run by Universal Publishing, and some of those same lawyers.

NO NEED FOR ANYONE TO GET BENT OUT OF SHAPE OF WHAT I'M GONNA SAY. BUT AS STATED MANY TIMES HERE RECENTLY IN THE LAST 2 WKS OR SO ~ MAYBE IF (SOME OF US WERE NOT SO MEAN IN SOME OF THE THINGS SAID, MAYBE HE WOULD DO MORE ON THE OTHERSIDE!!!! HE IS HUMAN TOO, AS HE STATED TINGS SAID CAN STING A LITTLE.

It was phenomenal.

I can bitch about the nearly-off-topic playlist replication problem how much I want, still, the 5PM concert was a magical moment. And I'm sure the 22PM did sound fresh to most of the audience.

But the daylight added a je-ne-sais-quoi more. It was more intimate, the crowd less pushy, the global feeling somewhat better.

I think the band kicked ass! The grooves were infectious. The background voices perfect. And the guitar playing so complex and yet so finger-in-the-nose-looking it hurt. Yeah, he had joy in his eyes, and it was contagious. Most of all, you could hear it.
