I'm still in seventh heaven, because that fan signing "Play that funky music" was ME biggrin biggrin

I was with a fellow fan, who suffers from cancer and she had to undergo chemotherapy en surgery. I took her along with me to Paris and I secretly vowed to try to give her the best time ever because she needed happiness and positivity.

During the first concert we were on the second row to the right. We really enjoyed because the sound was acceptable there and we could see him up close. We weren't really let down by the set list, because we expected a greatest hits show.

For the second show we needed to leave the venue again and get back in the queue that was already too long. I decided to execute my secret plan : to get my friend on stage so she could kiss Prince. I told her we would stand on the right corner of the stage, where the security guarded the entrance to the VIP area behind the stage I knew Shelby would go there and pick fans to dance on stage.

My plan worked : Shelby picked us and we got to dance on stage. It was brilliant - thousands of fans going wild, looking at you. I danced my ass off ! cool

Then Prince started playing "Play That Funky Music", he went straight to the bridge, stepped aside left, looked behind him and pointed to the mic.
In a split second decision I leapt forward and started singing in the mic. Luckily I know this song by heart but there is also a teleprompter. My friend joined in singing with me. I couldn't hear myself so I hope I stayed in tune a bit confused
I tried to involve the first row and on the line "lay down the boogie and play that funky music till you die" I looked at Prince and pointed to his guitar.
He rewarded me with a solo and when he finished he turned around and put the guitar in my hands. The other fans touched it as well and the guitar tech was very quick to take it back.

At that moment my friend took advantage of the confusion to approach Prince and she gave him a hug and a big kiss on his left cheek. Another girl did the same of his right cheek. Supposedly Prince shouted : "what a world !" but we didn't hear that. Quickly the bodyguards came running to get these "wild women" off Prince and in the struggle Prince lost his curved earring.

I was tempted to pick it up and keep it but I was ushered of the stage. I threw a handkiss to Shelby, my friend kissed her hand because we were so grateful for this experience.

I pray someone took a picture of it despite the photo ban - or maybe we were filmed by those camera's on the balcony. I sincerely hope so, but this is memory to treasure. It will stay in my heart forever. biggrin

shocked WoW im so happy for you and your friend! that sounds AMAZING woot!

I so hate and depressed I wasn't there. But thanks so much for the pixs & refferal sites. Prince has been changng swearing and suggestive words and phrases on some of his music. Did he change the part "to do the duty in your bed" from Anotherloverlikeaholeinyourhead?

No, he didn't change that, and also sang passages from Girl I never thought he would. I made a comment earlier about not really caring if he changes a swear word here & there as long as he sings these songs and does it properly

that was a great stratagy!..i can reassure u that the singing was just fine, the whole crowd singing with u also
it was fun to watch as everyone crowded the mic & a ripple of laughter through the crowd as prince became a bit sidelined lol
it was a pleasent suprise to see him return affection, he flung his arms around somebody, quite clear he'd enjoyed the experience. i'm so happy 4 u & your friend, hope her treatment is successful!
let's hope 4 a dvd pray

Time for some math. Let's look up when each song was first released:

For comparison: the average age of the songs performed for one of the Montreux gigs was 14.33333 years - see http://prince.org/msg/12/316300?&pg=4 .

okay but what is the point of this info?

thumbs up! he's one of these people who has to rationalise everything. Why not just enjoy a concert of Prince who just picked some songs he thought people would love to hear confused

I'm guessing Bart hasn't been out to a Prince concert for a long time and is probably fed up with that, or else I just don't know why he is always bitter.

Time for some math. Let's look up when each song was first released:

1999 - 1983
I Feel For You - 1979
Controversy - 1981
Sexy Dancer - 1980
Y U Wanna Treat Me So Bad ? - 1979

Take Me With U - 1984
Anotherloverholenyohead - 1986
Guitar - 2007
Raspberry Beret - 1985
Girl - 1985

All Day, All Night - 1987
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man - 1987
The 1 U Wanna C - 2007
Sometimes It Snows In April - 1986
Mountains - 1986

Partyman - 1989
Uptown - 1980
Let's Work - 1981
Kiss - 1986
Cool - 1981

All The Critics Love U In Paris - 1982
Cream - 1993
U Got the look - 1987

Now, to determine the average age of the songs played in this concert: determine the age of each song (year of concert - year of song's release), add all those number up, and divide by the number of songs in this concert.

2009 - ((
1983 + 1979 + 1981 + 1980 + 1979 +
1984 + 1986 + 2007 + 1985 + 1985 +
1987 + 1987 + 2007 + 1986 + 1986 +
1989 + 1980 + 1981 + 1986 + 1981 +
1982 + 1993 + 1987 ) / 23)

Let's use Google's calculator:
http://www.google.com/sea...+%2F+23%29

So the average age of the songs performed during this gig is: 22.8695652 years. Translation: on average each song played during this gig was about 23 years old. Which actually means plenty of them are even older, since this is an average. Two songs from 2007, one from 1993, and all others date back to the 1980s or even earlier.

For comparison: the average age of the songs performed for one of the Montreux gigs was 14.33333 years - see http://prince.org/msg/12/316300?&pg=4 .

1999 is from 1982
Sexy Dancer is from 1979
Cream is from 1991

So it gets even worse eh? wink

Do the math from a gig from the SOTT tour.

Hmmm, mathematically that doesn't appear very fair now does it? Technically he couldn't play anything older than 9 years then...

I pray someone took a picture of it despite the photo ban - or maybe we were filmed by those camera's on the balcony. I sincerely hope so, but this is memory to treasure. It will stay in my heart forever.

I was in the dead center front row at CLUB BLACK back a few years ago.I so wanted to be in the same frame as PRINCE.Well I all most did it.That tour book center page had a great photo from that nite. But my luck the photo ended 2 before me.Again I missed out of one a the ONLY things I really want in this life time.A PHOTO with Prince and MYself.I hope you find a photo I am sure in this day and time with cell phones everywear there is one out there.Prince never takes photos with fans.Prince put down the "wall" and let US in.We all love U!
Also I think we take set list with a grain of salt.We see them on sites like this and we look and say wow He sang that song(no big deal).
But these old songs mean alot to all of US long time fan.I was just listening 2 LA Conga Room-I like it there-The song jams! But if we saw it on a set list we would just think "NO big deal"Well let me tell you it is!

Thanks for the info.

Very interesting.

I hope that is said with a big dose of sarcasm!. That has to be one of Barts most annally retentive threads ever. As much as I love BVH,going to the effort of a chart is just off the scale in stupidity terms[should i do a chart to highlight it!]. Greatest Hits are greatest hits regardless of when they were in the charts. Are we saying that If Aretha did a gig last night we should rip her apart for singing stuff from the 60's / 70's or Elton, or Bruce, or anyone else who has had a long career. P constantly plays live shows and the setlists are always mixed up as was prooved on the TV appearance, were the first 2 trax new enough for you Bart, oh wait that's right they were new BUT crap to you!.
Come on BVH, don't lose your cred with stupid ass shit like this.

So.
After being away for a couple of years (i noticed BartVH is still bitter as ever : wink ), i'm happy to be back here on the Prince.org
I'm very happy to hear that Prince plays his old tunes more than ever ! His sound is sooooo good live.
The new stuff sounds live even better than on CD. Maybe Prince should release his new songs only as live performances, since his new studio efforts providing nearly half the energy of his live sound these days i think.
VERY VERY GOOD group!!! The background singers are awesome, and the drummer girl is fuckin' great ! it's good to be back after such a long time, knowing the .ORG didn't change a bit - alike it's fans !
And BartVH, The Revolution is history. Try to leave it. They'll never come back. All hail to Prince and his fans.
