This is a Prince conspiracy theory that just won't die.
Basically it's all of the above. But I think we can rule out the fantasy that Prince wished to communicate with his most hardcore fans by "leaking" unreleased material himself. Band members, girlfriends, employees, associates, these are all well known 'documented' individual sources of unreleased recordings. But since the mid to late 90s it's been a very closed shop and few leaks have occured since then. Much of anything 'new' since this time has come from collectors. There is way more material 'out there' than is generally circulating, but it is the hands of very few and you won't find it on any torrent site or blog. | |
