Do you really think he tried so hard to reflect what was "hip" at that time? I doubt it, his overall attitude back then just suggested that he didn't give a fuck about it, neither he did about anything that had to do with record companies and all that. He kind of stepped away from his Christian religion, too and somehow made the NPG his "new religion", which I dug very much. I think he just tried to free himself in every possible way and he succeeded and songs like P Control were the outcome.

ummm... you were 3 years old lol

Yes, back then I didn't know anything about him, apart from the sound of The Gold Experience playing in my dad's car, driving my mother crazy, but from all the interviews, videos, stories and all the other stuff from back then I know now I think I have a very good picture of how it had to be to be a fan back then and what persona prince was. All my opinions and assumptions about Prince (and especially prince) are full of confidence in my knowing enough to have an opinion. So, back off, noob! hmph!

Dont diss it too hard. This song regained my purple faith after having to deal with Come and Chaos n Disorder. I thought Prince was dead until this one started up when I put in the cd.

However: I do understand you sentiment in 'sort of' going for the lowest common denominator to express feminism. Because I had to run and slam the ipod off when it came up on 'shuffle' while at a conservative place.

Which coincides with how I feel Prince feels now. That some of his stuff that he wrote was vulgar and beneath a man of his talents. Yes some call him ribald and bold aka rock n roll in the day. And now he is ahem..respectable...aka 'zzzz' to some. But would you go around singing Pussy Control in public?

Having said that, I enjoy Madonna branching out with Frozen and Ray Of Light maturity and Prince with Rave, TRC and beyond. But there are times when I want to see that bitch slither on th e road and sing burning up for yur love and for prince to hump a speaker again. But I understand they are on a higher level now artistically, emotionally, and spiritually.

The Gold Experience, which Pussy Control comes from, came out BEFORE Chaos & Disorder!!!!

It did?

I thought it was just a fun song too, but with meaning. But during that time I remember my older brother calling me telling me about this song because he had seen the video (which I had not even seen yet) but I knew exactly the song he was talking about. I first got a little embarrassed, but he was actually raving on how cool the song and video was. That was the first time I had heard him mention Prince to me in a long time and it was from Pussy Control. It definitely got people's attention.

Actually most of the material on TGE is even a bit older that what ended up on Come, although he called Come "old material" at the time and TGE the "new material"!

Yup. Remember Prince wanted to release TGE and Come simultaneously to show the contrast between the "old" Prince material and the "new" prince material.

Of course WB wasn't interested in that and TGE got delayed.

I love this song, I'm not really sure what it means and I don't think it should be taken too seriously ..... it s sounds so good and its so fun.

You may think I'm crazy but I think it highlights his genuis even more ... he can do anything and has so much variation in his music.

Im sure Prince has done many worse songs that this!

It came out as a B-side in 1984 right after the Purple Rain project was finished. It was one of the outtakes from the the same Warehouse sessions.

I even heard that an early version of the song nearly surfaced on "Prince", his second album, but P decided to put "With You" on there, instead. As time went by he took away the infamous cow-bells, which soon proved to have been a masterstroke in his career!

Wow didn't think this topic would generate much of a response. But again it's interesting to see and hear everyone's point of view, especially the fans that were into Prince during this stage of his career. What's also interesting is that folks are calling this the Erotic City of that era, and I find that hard to believe, lol... But to each its own I guess

I actually never saw it either. But he was telling me about a video that he saw for the song and would describe it. Maybe some of the other orgers have seen it?
