Is Lady Gaga trying to be a female Prince?

My cousin pointed this out to me and i can kind of see where shes coming from even though i can't stand lady gaga .... that sort of weirdness she clearly forces on her self seems a little Prince like ...and all the unusal music and stuff its kinda hard to put into words what do you think?

oh yeah and it says on her myspace Prince is one of her influences...

She's bringing a mystique/persona to the table that's comparable to (or at least clearly influenced by) that of Prince/Madonna in the 80's.

Yeah, thats kind of true... I'm not a fan of hers (though I still like shaking my ass to that "Just Dance" song), but I respect her for what she's doing... At least she's bringing back what music has been missing for almost 20 years : IMAGERY... u know, MJ had his outfits, Prince his own and that purple color thing, David Bowie that hyper androginy image, Madonna that... hum.. "slutty nun" image... For the past few years its been the same boring cookie cute female singers or trashy ones, in Pop, R&B and rock all alike... So while the common person thinx she does dat only to get noticed and brew some publicity, I think there's actually more than that: Artistry and imagery... She may go too far sometimes with her clothes and look (check dat tora tora thing, WTF ), but at least she tries.. too hard sometimes, but I still respect that... Now it could be good to have a male alter ego... So I definitly think she's kind of emulating Prince, but not only. Gaga is a mix of Prince, madonna, Bowie, Mercury, Michael Jackson, Blondie... etc...

No. She's trying to be Madonna, who herself was trying hard to be Blondie. This is how it works. Prince was trying to be James Brown, Jimi, Little Richard and Sly.

If she is she's doing it poorly. I see more Madonna.

Madonna was a fake Prince. so in a round about way - yeah.
