Ingrid Chavez returns with A Flutter and Some Words

For those wondering whatever happened to Prince's poetic "spirit child" of the late '80s, wonder no more. Ingrid Chavez is back with a new album, "A Flutter and Some Words" (due September 2009), and a new official web site, www.ingridchavez.com.

While her official site remains a work in progress, her official MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/ingridchavez) has some of her photography and a couple of new tracks up to sample, as as well as some comments on the new album:

There was no intended outcome for these creations…no record company breathing down her neck to meet a “deadline.” Rather, these writings are a lifeline – a seamless thread of artful diary wiled into existence simply because this is what she does. Ingrid’s ideas, memories, musings, and visions always find their way from pen to paper, often accompanied by wistful melodies waiting to be breathed into life by the intimate Zen whisper of her voice. Now those pieces are ready to be shared as A Flutter and Some Words – 14 spellbinding glimpses into the soul of a uniquely gifted woman.

Check out her MySpace page and her site as it develops for more info!

Cool.

I love Ingrid. And the art direction for her projects -- which, I think, she usually leads -- is always interesting.

My favorite song by her back in the day was HIPPY BLOOD.

I'm a tad disappointed by the tracks previewed. A little too meditative and "homeopathic candle store" for my tastes. The beats and poetry on the Paisley Park release were outstanding... and her voice has such a nice quality to it.

I guess I need to hear more.

It takes a few seconds for the myspace player to pop up. There are 2 tracks.

i hope there's some smattering of dancier stuff on her new album, but i like the new agey stuff just fine. it sounds as if it has less risk of sounding dated than her last album, which for the most part i really liked, but in retrospect it most certainly does sound like a product of its time. not that there's anything wrong with it being a little dated, since everything comes back into fashion in time, but i like that her new stuff sounds just a bit less trendy.

Yeah, I can dig the soft chill stuff when I'm in the mood. I just soooo loved her PP album. One of my fav protege collaborations. The remix stuff is sick, too.

I know, I know... she's moving forward blah blah blah... razz

Not only is she moving forward, but I suspect her Paisley Park stuff would've sounded a lot more like this newer stuff had Warner Bros. not pressed for a slightly more poppy album. I think I've read that's what kinda drove Prince to do the "Alan Smithee" thing on the project.

Where do U come up with this stuff?

I always loved "Whispering Dandelions".
The remixes for her stuff were tight as well.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Her Paisley Park album has aged quite well. The production was too slick for a 1989 Prince related artist.
Most other Paisley records from that time sounded like no one at Paisley gave a shit about any of their recordings, incuding Prince's

i think the production on ingrid's PP album sounded pretty contemporary for 1989, and certainly the style and feel of that album was quite a bit different than the stuff that was typically churned out of prince's label...not that it was ALL bad, but i wouldn't say much other paisley park material was as experimental (or at least as unconventional) as ingrid's album. it'll be nice to hear an interpretation of her style that sounds contemporary for 2009.

I agree... she's brilliant- one of his most creative and brilliant proteges, actually. I mean Van & Apples & Sheila were really awesome, but Ingrid had SOUL. She was beautiful and she had brains, and she didn't let him manipulate her or boss her around.

I'm sure you guys have heard the story about how she cut her hair during the middle of filming Grafitti Bridge? They had to reshoot a good part of the film, and I swear to freaking god, it was her short hair that made her different from the other girls. she felt exciting and new, and she had the best tone to her voice- like a bell ringing in Neverland.

Ingrid, you're brilliant. keep on being creative and changing and morphing and being the genious you are.

lol
i was agreeing with everything you said including the "she had brains" part.

Then i get to the part about cutting her her mid way through a shoot.
That has got to be the stupidest thing any actor could ever do. lol
I hope they garnished her wages for years after from her job at The Waffle House after that shit.

Ingrid's website is now open! Lots of great goodies on there. Music video, interviews, loads of pictures and you can now purchase her new single "By The Water".

There is a lot more content on the way including films, poetry, exclusive videos, more artist to artist interviews and more... so check back soon.

This is everything I am looking for in a artist site, as a music fan! It's really a cool little insight into her world.
