Japanese Prince SHM CD Reviews

Can we have these please?

All i have heard is they sound a bit better. Can we have a more conclusive review of the sound on these new CD issues?

They look great, love how they use all the original label, insert and cover artwork, but how do they sound in comparison to the standard CDs?

I am really tempted to buy these...

No reviews is good reviews smile

No, really, I don't want somebody coming here now and saying they're not worth it or something worse. I just ordered them last night.

I made the sacrifice and ordered them for the good of Mankind: smile

I know that, once I've spent that small fortune, it will be a matter of months since we hear that the new Expanded Remasters are finally on their way

lol and pout (Story of my life)

Well, I see everybody's is dying for a good review and I hope I can provide one with this message. I bought all 10 of them last week and received them today. Now, first a nice cup of coffee, all the old cd-releases in line for the player and the new SHM-ones. Boy, I didn't know what hit me! I'm really confused why everybody's/some people are saying: oh, they sound slightly better. What do you mean? They sound awesome! I picked some tracks which I thought would depict a real good difference compared to the old releases. So, songs like DMSR, Little Red Corvette, Tambourine, America, Temptation, Darling Nikki, Sexuality, Controversy, It, Hot Thing - man, it's sheer heaven. The funk comes blasting through my stereo. Then, when I play the old ones, it sort of stays in the box and distant (I'm sorry, I don't know what better way to describe it). Now, people, I'm not at all an audiophile or an expert on these matters, but even my ears hear they sound way better than the 80's cd. BUY THEM! I'm honest when I say I bought them for the paper-sleeves in the first place as I get a real 80's feeling with that: just like when you bought the original album. They all look absolutely smashing: all cd's were miticuously reproduced like the original, so yes: Controversy with shower-poster (!), 1999 with 2 inner sleeves although all 11 tracks are on 1 cd, Purple Rain with poster, Around The World with original back-side flap, Sign O' The Times with the most adorable little peach postcard + blue heart-shaped sticker (not attached to the sleeve), all the releases have their original inner-sleeves, etc. Even the sleeves themselves are like the old ones: Lovesexy with shiny effect, but f.e. Controversy has a matt finish. So, everything's been taken into account - just the way us fans like it. Now, I know, the price-tag is the cliffhanger for most people. I paid $300 for mine, but I'm really really glad I bought them. If any ?, please mail me. I'm happy to answer any ?

well being a prince fan for 25 years and i am 36 this little lot has to be the best thing in ages. it gives the true fan the chane t re;live that feeling of buying the original LPs again. SOTT is just ace as its got the pictures of the original lp inside not the crap on the original cd. It is the 1st time that anybody at WB and sat down and gave us what we want!!!!.the awsome 2 sleeves of 1999 the poster in PR. the artwork on the cds that mimic the original LP inners and they say Paisley Park Records, oh how i miss buying a cd/lp with those words. plus the little thing of superior sound, i am sound engineer in cinema and its wicked. But to be honest its the mini sleeves that just make me so Happy. buy them and just sit with the mini lp sleeve and lets go back to the future. AWSOME

i completely agree - if prince wasn't so stoopid, he would've agreed with WB to do the exact same thing, but with additional tracks and artwork - these little gems are the best things ive purchased in a good 10-15 years - am so impressed with them

Nightcrawler

I ordered "1999", "Around The World In A Day" and "Sign 'O' The Times" at cdjapan. They arrived last week, about a month after I ordered.
The look has been described many times here, they look very nice, just like miniatures of the original LPs. That said, my experience with the sound is mixed. While 1999 and Around The World In A Day are not a huge improvement to the previous CD versions, I was simply blasted away by Sign 'O' The Times. This album sounds SO MUCH BETTER, the bass, the drums are crystal clear and fresh and heavy, it´s fantastic. So if you only consider to order some of them, I definitely recommend SOTT. But if your have money, but them all for the artwork alone...
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...
