Lotus Flow3r Review

I posted this review on Prince fan group on facebook. I got know response, so I thought this would be the best place to post. I would like to know what other Prince fans think of the Lotus Flow3r cd. I haven't heard much talk about it since it's release and the 'Tonight Show' performances.

Here's my take on the cd:

I will break it down song by song.

1. From the lotus- like the intro, vintage prince guitar

2. Boom- I didn't like it at all on the first listen, but now I kinda dig it. Not crazy about it, but its listenable. That's the best I can give it.

3. Crimson and Clover - This is a great cover, I always loved the original. When I heard this I thought, yes, he's baaaaack!

4. 4 ever- nice tune, love the lyrics

5. Colonized Mind- nice groovy jam, I was still with him on this song.

tracks 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12. - Totally disappointed, not even worth mentioning, very boring and weak

11. Dreamer- Really liked the Jimmy Hendrix sounding intro. After listening to the whole song I thought this is too polished, I was expecting a more raw sound and feel after the intro. In the end I was disappointed. I can imagine Prince doing this live and tearing it up, but it just didn't cut it for me.

Overall I thought that only tracks 3 ,4, and 5 stood out. I remember a time when I liked every song on every Prince album from 'For You' to 'Love Sexy'. To me he kicked ass for 10 straight years, I guess I got spoiled and expected too much. I can imagine it being tough to write that many bad ass songs and keep it going. The last Prince album I liked all the way through was 'Rainbow Children'. I would like to hear some feedback from other fans. Let me know what you think. I'm sure opinions vary depending on when you started listening to Prince. This is coming from a person who dug Prince from day 1, when he first came on the scene.

what, no love for "$" ? pffft.

and my guess is that no one responded to it on facebook because when you stop reviewing an album, track by track, after the 5th song and just gloss over the rest of it saying you don't like it... it's not worth commenting on.

Wall Of Berlin and $ are fantastic, how can you just dismiss them like that? I even have plenty of love for Love Like Jazz, after I got over my initial WTF?! moment. biggrin

call it a "my opinion" cause its definitely NOT a review. Wall of Berlin "not worth mentioning", your credibility is permanently SHOT.

There's weak participation on the facebook group Einstein. That's why nobody commented on it. I glossed over the other songs because they weren't worth mentioning.

Skipping over 6 tracks entirely is not really "breaking it down, song by song".

You're allowed to dislike songs, but at least write why you dislike them.

Nice review. confused

No one commented on FB because the Prince Patrol was somewhere looming..lol..but seriously the album does have a nice flow to it..If it was all rock-oriented, I would've felt it more.

I gotta strongly disagree with your review. I love Lotusflow3r. I also agree with the folks on this thread that said "Wall Of Berlin" and "$" are great tracks. "$," by far, is my favourite track on the album. I think that "Feel Good, Feel Better, Feel Wonderful" (did I mess up the title?) and "Love Like Jazz" are good songs but they do kind of spoil the flow. I would have preferred an all out rock album. However, on the whole Lotusflow3r is my favourite Prince album in a long time, probably since Emancipation.

I do think my favorite "Prince" track (as in a unique direction that only Prince would do) is "Boom" followed by the intro and outro crazy stuff. The cover of "Crimson and Clover" also has great crazy effects and style.

The next best for me is "Colonized Mind".

"$" sounds too normal a genre song for me. As do a few of the others.
