I gotta go with Newpower Soul. It just seemed like he was really coasting on that one.

I don't get the Planet Earth hate. It's a very solid album and more consistent than Musicology, 3121 or MPLSoUND.

I love 'New Power Soul' and 'Planet Earth' comes nowhere close to '3121', 'Musicology' and 'MPLSound.'

It's simple Planet Earth is crap. There is nothing wrong with Newpower SOUL and Musicology 3121 and MLSound are far better than PE.

Mybe i should give it a second chance. I know i bought it, listened to it once and was dissapointed. It should have been a madhouse album or so (I like Madhouse). it's not what i expected from a prince album

Cool ScarletPuzy, you seem to like them all?

I can't say that..

I find it very easy to rate/ rank Prince's albums,

1. 1980-1988 first
2. then the rest of the Warner Bros. albums
3. then the weaker ones
4. and finally the crap

Not including Kamasutra, just because, Rave is Prince's worst album IMO.

It represents the absolute rock bottom in the second half of the 90s downturn, and it was the first album that just made my heart sink when I first gave it a spin.

What would come after Rave - Musicology and 3121, for the same reasons, they sound like Prince chasing trends and playing catch up with the crop of teenybop and popular chart R&B acts at the time. *ick*

All the usual suspects in this thread (Come, C&D, NPS, etc) contain way more interesting ideas, songs and concepts than these tree pieces of transparent tripe put together.

Give it another chance. You said it yourself, you expected something it wasn't, and so you were disappointed when it didn't live up to what you *thought* it should be. I really like NEWS now, but I did feel similar to you in 2003 when it first came out. smile

If you consider these proper PRince albums, then Kamasutra and NewPower Soul in that order.

If not, Rave Un2 would probably be the worst. I don't HATE Rave. I even like it and think folks are harsh on it. But technically, it really is Prince at his lowest. Eve's Rap sucks, the lead single is too slow and depressing (despite ending really nicely), and the entire album sounds more stylish than meaty.

That being said, it was better than the boy/girl band albums that were huge at the time---just not something becoming of Prince.

Planet Earth is terrible, like if Prince slapped some half-assed music together and gave it away. Oh wait, he did! I made myself listen to it at least 3 times, weeks apart to see if it would grow on me. By the last listen I had to turn it off. The lyrics are awful, the music was making my ears bleed. Planet Earth = pooptoast
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

well .... when i think back at how fast prince made the batman album which
was fantastic, and he did that fast.... i will say that the newest album
pretty much sucks! i thought he could have gone a whole new way, he could
have gone back to making the piano music which worked so well for him. or
the kama sutra stuff or a mix of both.....

thinking back the creative energy that was flowing then for prince made
that batman album great , now don't get me wrong i think he has come out
with alot of great stuff since then, but this last one really let me down...

i was looking for something off the wall fantastic that i know he has in him
waiting to come out.....i think he is worried to much about web sites
and such these days , it takes away from what he truely is to all of us.

he should think about this.... and get his best stuff out while he can
if you know what i mean.....

just my take on it.....

Take your pick from among several of the last ones. If I have to pick I'd say New Power Soul or this last piece of crap, Lotusflower.
I think Come was ok and I REALLY like Chaos and Disorder.

OF course everyone has a right to his own opinion but it REALLY puzzles me how so many people chose Chaos out of the two last WB (contract filler) albums to be the worst.

The Vault is by far Prince's worst album I think.

Eh, I like both Chaos And Disorder and The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale.

I'm also puzzled by all the hate for Planet Earth. I don't think it has any fantastic single songs but overall I really dig it.

What is the worst Prince album according to you ???

Tough one, despite being creative and ground breaking on some earlier work, he has equally as many cheezy ,lazy, and down right horrible albums...make it easier by asking for the worst 5 or 10.

Pretty much everything from Emancipation on.

That was when, to me anyways, he stopped releasing albums that were for the most part solidly listenable beginning to end. After that he started releasing albums that while they may have had some good tracks here and there, you'd more often than not find yourself reaching for the skip button.

That's a shame. Here's me thinking I was a true Prince fan.

Maybe I still am? How do you know?

Is there a blood test? or maybe a testing a stool sample? What about a smear of some kind? I read somewhere there was a correlation between 'True Funksters' and 'Complete Wankers (Australian usage)'. I'm pretty sure it was a medical journal.

I'm glad he "sold out". It's a dumb ass term to begin with. When you're making a movie, and BARELY getting it done (ie: financing, etc), you have to make something people across the board are going to hear and want to listen to. He couldn't have had the success with Purple Rain and it been a bunch of funk songs like 1999 or Controversy. And he didn't sell out to pop either. "Little Red Corvette" was a ROCK song, and that got 80% of the WHITE people in the audience.

Most of Purple Rain is a rock album, not a pop album. WDC is pop, as is IWD4U and BIAS, but the other songs are rock oriented songs. Doesn't mean they sound like Motley Crue or Bon Jovi, but aren't all R&B either.

When you consider an artists success, you have to consider ALL of it. PR was Prince's Thriller. Almost every really good artist has THAT album in the discography. It could be a debut album, or one further down the line. But to dismiss a great album for the sake of keepin' it old school or whatever is ridiculous. It'd be like cutting Thriller from MJ's discography, or Jagged Little Pill from Alanis' set. Or how about the janet. album from Janet's past? Or Like A Prayer from Madonna's past. It just doesn't make sense.

I have come to expect more from prince these days, he has more technology to work with and he still is putting out bad stuff lately. it is a shame to because he is able to produce some great stuff if he tries to.

I think the fans deserve it, or maybe him in another movie, you just can't top him and jerome benton as a team.....i think prince these day is just trying to get by with his fans by putting out something. and something is better then nothing. but it is not about how much you put out as much as it is quality. if you put out alot of stuff and most of it is crap , then how are you bettering yourself?

Sure the fans will buy it.... he can bank on that , it is probably why prince does it.he does not feel like we are entitled to another batman album, or sign of the times i guess. since we play a huge part as a whole to his success, we could be looked at better then we are. when he decides to make a new project
for us.....

God knows he is able.....but does he think we as his fans are worth it ? that is the question?

just my opinion.....
