I think that the Lotusflow3r album itself is better than his last 3 works!

I can listen to the "lotusflow3r" album from track 1 to "dreamer" without skipping any tracks. This is coming from a person who has been critical of his last 3 works. "boom", colonized mind:, "feel better, "$;, "dreamer and "4ever" are good songs. I don't think he can make a much more cohesive album than this one. I think it's very repectable indeed.....Peace!! headbang

Same here.
I agree with calling it charming and beautiful.
Also from someone who has been critical of most his work for the last 15 years.

By the same token I still find its counterpart, MPLSOUND as one, if not his worst ever.

I agree that MPLSOUND only has a couple of solid tracks on it.. "dance 4 me
, "ur gonna c me", "here" , and "no more candy 4 U".. the rest of it i usually skip thru a lot. "ol' school company" is okay.... But the rest of it is filler.

It would be close, but I would agree, only MPLsOUND is better and 3121 is about the same with it. I actually thought Planet Earth is quite good too, even tho I did not think much of it when it came out. Prince's latest albums kind of grow on me. Sometimes I skip the instrumental stuff but overall its ok. Colonized Mind and Dreamer are his best songs in years.

i love it above and beyond anything post 2003, that's for sure.
the only song that i dislike a tiny bit is "4ever" since i don't
really like those overlayered screechy chorus type of songs. but
the melody is cool and it's a minor flaw in an otherwise superb
album. love it start to finish.

i can't completely discard the musicology/3121/planet earth trio
since they could comprise and album equally brilliant if they'd
spread their best songs out over 1 new disc.

mplsound is also kinda schizo for me. i like some stuff a lot,
but as an album i don't like to listen to it. so i took three
tracks off that one and put them on there too, lol.

it's the only way i listen to those albums anymore:

01. 3121
02. A Million Days
03. Te Amo Corazon
04. Dance 4 Me
05. F.U.N.K.
06. All The Midnights In The World
07. Lion of Judah
08. The Word
09. What Do U Want Me 2 Do?
10. Fury
11. Satisfied
12. Here
13. Old Skool Company
14. Reflection

it might look a bit strange but it flows pretty damn well actually,
and it has the same "camille" vibe as mplsound but just with a load
of better songs fleshing the project out.

i LOVE this album.

plus, the left over tracks from these 4 projects make for another
few hours of nice listening.

so i'm not complaining about his output anymore. this is the age of
the pick n mix. so i'm embracing it.

cool

I'll admit i've been more impressed with the Lotusflow3r album
the more i've listened. Like someone mentioned earlier the
album has cohesion from the beginning to end. I like how the
songs like the titletrack, Boom, Crimson and Clover, 4ever,
Colonized Mind, etc. just transition into one another.
The Mplsound cd is less impressive and uneven although there are about
4-5 tracks i dig. I would rate Lotusflow3r an A and
Mplsound a C+.

I'm sorry, but a lot of Lotus Flower sounds like generic soft rock that would play in an elevator. It does have some high points. But dreamer just sounds like someone singing their own lyrics while a high school band is imitating Hendrix. Colonized Mind is muddled in it's message (I can't stand when Prince talks about god and joint venture record deals in the same song). Also, and I know this will bring down a major shit storm, I don't care for most of his guitar playing on LF. It sound like a lame Santana impersonater, And Santana is over-rated to begin with.

MPLSound is cool as a 80's throwback album, but I don't think the masses will get it, and it should have been a release through his Website to hard core fans only.

3121 was the disc of the new millennium, LF can't hold a candle to 3121

If you include the whole set and not just the title album, Its his best since Emancipation IMO, nothing hes done since 96 comes close....

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I think that the Lotusflow3r album is certainly Prince's most consistent album post 1996. I'm not sure if it is his best. I think that you could argue that both Musicology and 3121 have some better individual songs but there is probably less filler on Lotusflow3r. I do agree that Lotusflow3r is much better than MPLSoUND.

it's been a while since i have enjoyed a prince release this much.
musicology was weak 2 me w/ a few good tunes, 3121 was better and PE was along the same vibe. but this collection excels in terms of musicianship, the entire collection just feels better. it's the kind of release i wanted in the mid-late 80's just to show friends what a great guitarist prince is. i love the experimentation as well.

I like it okay, but I was shocked to find I liked MPLSound even better. I feel like I should like Lotus more, but MPLSound is really solid.

I also feel that musically it is more well rounded, and that Lotus focuses maybe too much on electric guitar (and this is from a guy who plays electric guitar also) to show off all of prince's talents.

IMHO...

Prince's work this decade is light years beyond his work in the 90's and Planet Earth is better than what people want to give it credit for.
