Best Prince period? As you guys know Prince has gone through many different personal stiles. It seems like whenever he comes out with a new album, he also comes with a new stile. Prince has gone through more personal stiles than any artist probably have during their whole career. So my question to all of you is, which Prince period is your favourite? And why?
Personally I would have to choose the "Dirty Mind" period, because that was when he was probably the most creative and groundbreaking. I just love everything he made during those years !! Feel free to write your peronal views on each stile

Feel free to write your peronal views on each stile The period between 1999 and Lovesexy/The Black Album was just insane... included in that period would be albums by the Time, Family and Sheliah E. Just an incredible prolific period of absolutely amazing music That is not to say he didn't have his moments before or after that I mean before that period songs like Do Me Baby, Controversy,Lets Work, Head, Wanna B UR Lover, Bambi, Crazy U you could see what might be coming. Aftewards songs like Electric Chair, Joy in Rep, We Can Funk (man that thing is funky like doo doo) etc.... However think about the material and musical ground Prince covered between 1999 and the Lovesexy/Black Album. Its truly absurd... not only the ground but the quality of the music. Simply amazing... The Slave era, 1993-1996
He was so damn funky and dirty. His look was crazy and very feminine at times, but his behaviour was so cool. Although he wrote "Slave" on his face and had a lot of problems with WBs, I think that was the time when he felt free the most. Everything, the music, the style etc was perfect, in my opinion. I also love the dirty mind era. The reasons have already been posted by others.

I think the 1992-1995 period was great and undervalued and overshadowed by the name change.
There was alot of very good material recorded in this time frame that has been released. My personal favorites from this era. He could have a released an amazing 3 disc set in 1995 that would have blown Emancipation out of the Water.

I think this person was talking about his clothing style only, which makes it a bit more accurate. Stll you are right, there are some mistakes in there.

eye would have to agree with Bambi but I also loved the "slave" period Before we do anything, let me just talk 2 U

There is one other performer eye can think of that has a different style each time we see him, and refuses to be typecast, at least most of the time, non musical...that would be Brad Pitt, including his willingness 2 change his hair, eye luv that in a man, sorry didn't mean 2 go there
Before we do anything, let me just talk 2 U

Parade without a doubt.

83-86 - everything he did was pure gold.
after that... ehhhh.. in the nineties, his music was boring and 2000-present is even worse.

Lovesexy-by a mile. I couldn't get anyone to go with me to the parade shows. We all know what happened to the SOTT Wembley show ;-( so-Lovesexy at Wembley arena I swear I will never ever forget. I went to all of em' and loved it all. Got my 1st copy of the black album-on tape the first night from a guy outside-in fact i sold all of his tapes for him-I just shoed my copy to the coach i was on and he got swamped-and i got mine free. There were three girls i particularly remember-stunners-in capes and high heels-and when the show started-off came the capes-dressed as Vanity 6-only fitter.....the feeling inside and outside.....A freaking amazing time

Definitely the 1980-87 period, where every album outdid the last and very album a classic, Princes golden period, and the time he was a musical genius. He was so revolutionary and open minded then, none of this Larry Graham Jehovahs Witness crap So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time
