Nothing Compares 2 Uptown Magazine.

I miss the fanzine ALOT. Are there any decent Prince print materials in circulation?

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Many of the Uptown team are taking some time out - me included following the closure of Housequake.com

It's not decided what will happen to The Vault 2009 at this point but thanks for the compliments.

Gav, is Housequake really done for?

I miss that place something chronic - or is the plan just to keep it on the DL for the current album launch and then reboot - to teach the man a lesson about biting the hand that feeds him?

I vote for that.

And I am prepared to beg to have the place re-open.

what does the closure of housequake got 2 do with anything? the last time the book was updated was in 2004 and every year since UPTOWN'S closing of their issues/website, there have been promises of a new vault book and it never comes.

they're not contractually obligated to provide us with a new edition of the vault. maybe they're just tired. maybe they just wanna get through a full day without having to look at prince's mug for a change. maybe they need a break. shrug

Fully understand them needing a break. I was just feeling nostalgic for the days when I'd run down to the local Tower Records for it -- always amazed by the amount of focus and detail that went into each issue. Hope it returns one day.

heck, i miss 'zines and fanzines in general. it used to be great fun going to tower or the local 'zine shop in the village and grabbing a big pile of funky looking 'zines. of course the internet and blogs have rendered all that goodness obsolete. sad.

I am in denial, so this sad truth will not sink in.

Could the current folks perhaps pass it over into the hands of a new set of mods who have more patience for this sort of thing?

It seems such a shame to loose all that community / technology / investment / good will...

hell i understand that needing a break is fine and dandy, what i'm not understanding is the closure of a fan site has 2 do with publishing a book?
