The price is great. But I don't think the 3CD thing is a good idea, particularly for the general audience.

Just one great CD is all that is needed. IMO.

A MYST influence on the graphics and design (malzone/clay)...?

Prince Teams With Target, Sets Release Date

Prince is releasing a triple album on March 29th to be sold exclusively at Target for $11.98. Two of the discs, MPLSOUND and Elixir, feature new music by Prince and the third disc is performed by his new protégé Bria Valente.

As if that wasn’t enough Prince news for the day, Spinner got a sneak peak at his new website Lotusflow3r.com, which is set to launch in full later this month. For the price of one subscription (possibly $77 per year), fans will have access to tons of live video footage, as the site’s designer, Scott Addison Clay, says Prince has been archiving film of all his concerts since the Purple Rain era. The extravagant graphics and design of the site were inspired by the video game Myst.

The 3 CD concept is a great idea. In all actuality, most Prince fans will only buy the two Prince cds. The Bria cd will be off the racks in a few months if radio does not embrace it. The concept allows for a lot of material and different choices for the consumer. It also allows P a lot of creative outlets.

He didn't play a song called "Break It Down" at Coachella.

He did, however, play "Shhh" - which starts with the lyric, "Break it down..."

Did I see where all cd's are sold in one package for $12? Well, disregard my theory but what a great deal.

This sounds intriguing, for sure! The live videos would be awesome if they are as extensive as is hinted here, and I might even get to see myself on stage. smile

I'm less hopeful about the unreleased music component. That was a huge carrot for NPGMC, and it didn't live up to the hype.

Nonetheless, I'm sure I'll shell out the cash for Prince goodies. drool

Cool he chose Target. I remember in Dec/Jan we were all figuring out which retailer he would go with either Best Buy or Target and most of us preferred Target. Cool.

The membership fee isn't bad either. Sounds like the site will be off the chain. woot!
[Edited 3/2/09 15:19pm]

Yes I remembered those posts quite well and the discussion about the retailer. I went back to look at the posts from when we first heard about the news. Here are two of the threads from back then:

http://prince.org/msg/7/293342?&pg=8

http://prince.org/msg/7/294151?&pg=5

Very wise from a marketing standpoint to sell them as a 3-disc set! I was almost certain that would be the game plan as well as Target being the retail distributor. nod thumbs up! Looking forward to the music
I better get busy and sell some more items on ebay to pay for the Lotusflow3r subscription. lol

woot!

lol Laughing at the ebay part. You have 27 days as of today to do that.

Im still trying to work out how showing a clip from Coachella proves that he's filmed most of his concerts since Purple Rain. Wouldn't it have been better to say, "and to prove it, he clicked on a video link, where we discovered a 1983 aftershow jam"? biggrin lol

But anyway, very excited can't wait for this to go live.

Exactly what i was thinking.
If the 2 new Prince cds are so different from one another in style, like has been long hyped, they should be released seperately. Releasing them together with a protege cd (normally second-rate at best) thrown in, will downgrade the quality overall. Just like the Truth album would've made more of an impact if it had been realeased as a singular album, i'd much rather LotusFlower be judged as a single album, not part of some sloppy Crystall Ball type missmash with some bland middle of the road protege act.

I Would DIE to see some performances from the Purple Rain and Lovesexy Tours.I always thought that the Prince and the Revolution live video released in 85 was not representative of that tour. Also I bought a bootleg of the Lovesexy tour (sorry Prince) but the quality was awfull. If the web site has a good archive of live stuff 77 dollars is worth it.

OMG!!! I'm totally wetting myself right now!!!! I can't hardly wait for this thing to go live. I just hope it's not a total dud. If it has everything promised it is going to be the BOMB!!!! I'll pay $77 for that. Especially the live footage.

I faintly remember NPG and it didn't seem that well put together. Hopefully this one will be better.

well, since the entire package seems to be $11.98, the price of ONE cd, surely you can put up with an extra disc that you aren't interested in.

I would love for there to be a feature where the fans can vote on which show they'd like to be released via video download. For example I'm casting my early vote for the House Of Blues aftershow in 4/02 during the ONA tour. Beautiful Strange, Calhoun Square, BODP (from the One Nite Alone aftershow set) was played that night. We could all go for days on this one but it would be fun to have that feature. I wish I thought of that while I had Scott's ear on sat. Scott are you listening?

actually i like that idea so that maybe instead of dissing it u might just give it a fair shake and listen 2 it. and i 4 one am estatic that her album will b included cause then i won't have 2 go searching around the store 4 it and they don't have it stocked. it's all a musical journey, even the proteges, sit back and enjoy the ride big grin
