Why have you stayed with Prince for 30 years?

For the hardcore fans, who have supported him since the beginning, why have you stuck with him? Is it because of the music mainly or the overall magnetic attraction?

NONSENSE

Prince was a natural transition. I grew up as a child listening to James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, Al Green, Ohio Players, and Rick James. With that said, Prince has always represented the best of music. If I could say one thing to him I would say "Thanks." He will forever be my favorite artist.

I still think Prince is the greatest musical artist in the business. Nobody's music touches me like his does, I don't enjoy other concerts as much as I do a Prince concert.

Well, I grew up on him...I'm only 31 years old and I grew up listening to his music being around my uncle and my aunts - my mom brought me the 8 track of Purple Rain along with the record album and I played it and played it...I wasn't allowed to hear some songs and I didn't know why but now I know but as for seeing the movie - I did when I was much older but I could only see it in parts when I was young...As I got older, my taste for his music grew too and were my relatives stopped listening -I picked up...He's like a long lost relative and I don't even know him...
Um... let me warm up my vocals

The first song that turned me on via Prince was "Controversy." It was like he knew from the very beginning of his on-going career that he'd be the center of a lot of buzz and such.
Musically, Prince is innovative, genius, gorgeously handsome on and off stage, sexy, passionate and determined to be his own man.
Prince is an alpha male. He's like that most valuable diamond in the rough, of which only he can shape and add the facets. The man is a treasure.
I totally thank the creator of all good for Prince being in the space and time of which I exist.

I'm 33 y/o and I definitely relate to your story. I'm the youngest of 5 kids and all my siblings and my cousins were huge Prince fans before I paid too much attention. They even used to tell me that I looked like him and it made me so mad. biggrin As I got older, it was just a natural progression for me to check out his music because it was always there. By the time I was 14, I was a die hard fan, trying to hear everything I could get my hands on. And now, like you I'm sure, I have to hip then to what he's doing!

when I first heard "when doves cry" I knew that this was "my man" in music... Over the years there have been ups and downs, but I still think he is the most interesting musician and artist - ever.

remember back in the day - you could be like into: rock, disco, avantgarde, punk, pop etc etc. The youth culture back then was very conservative; you needéd to choose what category you prefered..

Then Prince came and changed all that; he combined it all and communicated; be true, love one another... COOL...

He got me through the eighties with my sanity intact (more or less), and in spite of everything I'll always treasure him for that. Plus he doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks. He's a survivior.

I've been a fan for 25 years now and I stay with Prince because he still makes music that I like and enjoy. The whole package is still as fascinating now as it was 20 years ago. If that wasn't the case, I would not be here. I will always be a Prince fan, no matter what happens.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

And yet you are here, just waiting for Prince to come down and sue you personally. Very odd if you ask me. biggrin

4 me it's the 'sub culture' he created, he not only made unique music, but created a world to go along with it. So you actually were in Uptown Erotic City or Paisley Park with him. A lot of his music was real life situations

I loved the bands/band members as well, when the band changed drastically after the Dr & Mico left his sound took on a different feel, a lot of the music didn't sound like him anymore, at times it was hard for me to discern from the hip hop influenced RnB & Pop vs his music. I kinda lost touch after Diamonds & Pearls... I still kept an eye on him and appreciated some music but not like before. I got into some other music scenes. I love underground music/remixes/house music. When I heard I Hate U, I thought PRINCE woke up. I went crazy 4 this song and was hunting the record store for the day the album/cd came out.

I watched his career away from being 'into' the music for some years, I started getting back into as a 'fan' around Musicology. I let comments by people hold me back from Rainbow Children for a few years. But Rainbow Children turned out to be my favorite, I can listen to that whole album. I had a feel and vision like the prior 80's music, it didn't feel like he was just putting an album together with songs that may or maynot have a connection. And it sounded like Prince music. But that 'voice' still irks me.

When I fell back in love with Prince/Purple Music I saw One Night Alone back in 06/07 and it was Pop Life they were performing, it brought back a rush of memories and feeling and I was hooked again. I began revisiting the albums I paid no attention 2, and found Purple Music here and there. I still can't stand his hip hop voice or the hh beats. I only had his 4 U-Batman music on album or tape, so I began buying the cds, made some connections and got flooded with unreleased music from those years.

When I heard Pop Life on One Night Alone and seeing him with Sheila E and Eric it was like running into a childhood friend you've had on your mind for a while...

Also as someone who came of age in the 80's, I began really appreciating the 70's 80's time periods. How music wasn't recycled and people were original, youi really had to have something to make it... So not only have I reconnected to Prince but also to lot of the music and movies of those years

older relatives were always playing his music. from my childhood i remember how diverse he was. i remember thinking dag, he's doing ROCK, when i first heard Bambi. He is a one man orchestra of sorts. U get all genres with him which is why he's so interesting, you never know what you're going to get from album to album. and everyone has their preferences for what Prince they get, but i like his "scatterbrained" approach to music and making records. its true artistry. no one keeps my interest like he does. i left him for a while and rediscovered him with TRC, a MAJOR curveball of an album.

Yeah, I can relate to your story...my relatives used to laugh at me saying that I look like him also and that he was my daddy...I used to be so mad - my dad looks nothing like him -may-be a relative....Kids could be so cruel - I'm only like 10 years younger than my uncle, and my baby aunts are only like 8 and 6 years older than me...(my mom is the oldest out of 7 kids-she used to watch all her siblings)...I also remember going to a baby sitter while in school during the Purple Rain days and the kids were forming a mock band of the revolution and I was supposed to be Prince but they decided to kick me out and make this dude him and they demoted me to Dr. LOL! I was a girl for God's sake LOL!
