Well, I have to say many are taken aback by "Colonized Mind" and "Crimson&Clover". "Colonized Mind", definitely a nice track.

"There'll never be another like me". I like the funk sound in it.

and it sounds delightful on those. good soundquality for an mp3 on
a website stream. song is growing on me totally. it's no crystal ball
or nothing but it's fun.

Gotta say... I am loving "Colonized Mind" and "Wall of Berlin". I just EQed a bit, 2 try 2 bring the dynamics out, that suffer tremendously from this quality. I must hear the full range of these... but DAG, Prince. U really shouldn't change these at all.

Also, I do really love his take on "Crimson & Clover". Possibly the best rendition ever of that song, and VERY Prince.

I don't give Prince accolades easily -- but that's not because I'm 'a hater neutral , but because I'm in love with his great potential.

Colonized Mind -- Totally dig the music and tonal atmosphere. I detest the ideas/philosophies in the song because they are a tad immature and superficial but act like they are profound (see Kanye). The bible stuff ("Without God it's just the blind leading the blind" ) nailed the coffin closed for me. The message is just too trite. But the song inspired some hope because I felt he was at least close to "the zone." No cigar. Give me new lyrics, an exapnsive philosophy, and story with this great music. 2/4

I completely agree with most of what you said except this. One thing I have

noticed from a few fans is that they do not like to hear Prince sing about

spirituality, religion or politics. In case you havent noticed, thats who he

is! Its a huge part of him as it is a part of Bob Marley or Bob Dylan even.

All controversial artists but legenary and unforgettable. Fans seem to think

making comments like these will slowly suck the spirituality out of him. You

dont wanna hear sexually charged lyrics then dont go out and buy a Donna Summer

album. You dont want to hear deep philisophical and spiritual messages with

political overtones, and sexuality, dont buy a Prince record. Simple.

Nothing about God is trite, and you want him to get into expansive philosophy

in a 4 minute song??? I think he achieved his point beautifully with the

lyrics he wrote. I am looking forward to more of him at his best when we hear

the full album.

Peace and love

Hey Xtra.

Spirituality, Politics are 2 of the greatest topics to explore in music (no comment on religion mad ). Many Prince friends I know, including myself, gravitating toward Prince due to his eclectically expressed spiritual ideas.

Bob Dylan and Marley are poets. I have no idea why their music deserves to be mentioned alongside Colonized Mind.

I have it on loop right now to see if I can convince myself to like it. No.

The observances are simply not interesting. Not insightful. Too pedestrian. And I mentioned Kanye earlier, compare this to his music not Marley or Dylan. Remember when Kanye did ...lets see. the Diamonds song -- about a really substantive topic right? Well, he said NOTHING insightful about it. LOL. You can't just mention stuff and have your song be profound. You have to actually reflect and say something that makes people go a-ha! Or hmmm. To this, though. I simply say "Blah!"

I'm open to seeing the genius in this song. I mean I do have it on loop. So, I"m open to people pointing out something I'm missing.

During the day at work i have been playing the songs on and off,the songs are nice.
Like mom and dad got me socks and a turtle-neck nice.
But i dont think Prince has the passion for music like he use to, which isnt a bad thing.
I'm listening to the songs and I'm imagining Prince casually recording these songs, sipping good wine with some nice cheese, real cool and casual like, like no biggie.

Umm no. I heard the leaked Planet Earth and thought it sucked. I listened to the official release, and bought it like a good fan, forced myself to listen to it 3 times. It still sucked.

Plant Earth = barf

I'm not feeling Crimson & Clover, I like Colonized Mind. Haven't bothered to listen to the other two yet. I'm busy cleaning. smile

hey devoted, isn't colonized mind the same song u heard at the hotel? i remember u posting the lyrics as best as u can and once i heard him say download..i thought about ur post but i can't find it now.

Yes, it seems that the first song of the early Hotel Gansevoort concert was in fact, Colonized Mind. We didn't know the title of it at the time and I couldn't really make out the lyrics other than he kept saying "download/upload." By the time my guest & I figured out what was going on (new song or cover?) it was too late to try to remember the lyrics and he didn't sing the whole song. We thought it was about the internet because of the repetition of download/upload in the lyrics.

I gotta say it sounded really good when we heard it at the concert and I'm happy that this version (studio version?) sounds pretty much like the song we heard. cool

nod I'm diggin "Colonized Mind", and agree with those who are saying that it reminds them of Jimi Hendrix. I definitely can hear the Jimi vibe in that song.

After loving the Rainbow Children and enduring 3 mediocre albums that have helped to raised Prince's pop stature back up to nearly what it used to be and normalize his image to the public, I am ready for something interesting again.

I did not buy 21 Nights, the first album I didn't buy of Prince's--ever! I can only hope that this new stuff is creative.

Didnt like this one. Sounds like it´s from the NPGMC days (Chocolate Invasion and such). Hope it´s not included in the new album.

But the radio tracks are fantastic.

to me it's an ok song, nothing special. i really do like crimson and clover, i'm listening to it alot! wink
