Printable OK peeps! Here we go...yet again
Crimson & Clover Ok, let me start by saying I dig Prince doing covers but I dont dig him releasing the 3-CD set Emancipation with his lead single being a cover?? Huh? Never did figure that out. And the fact that this is the supposedly the first song on the CD after an instrumental didnt thrill me. Until I heard it. Prince sings with a warbled vocal effect that works nicely. This sounds like he could have recorded it after the Superbowl because its got that kinda intensity with his guitar prowess and brillance. This is exactly what all huge Prince fans have been asking and pleading for. Guess what? Prince delivers. One of his best (if not his best) covers ever. Colonized Mind WOW! These songs are getting rave reviews because they deserve it. Prince is back in a big way with this collection you can just hear and feel it. This song finds Prince in a bluesy Santana/Stones/Dylan/Hendrix mood. His lyrics are gripping and vocal work outstanding. Singing of politics and God in a Money Dont Matter/Mr.Man way mixing the two together with a very powerful message. He brings the guitar hard in only a way P can. A song reminiscent of the hard hitting "Fury" from 3121. The groove is layed back yet urgent making you want to sway to and fro. Stellar guitar work and effects on his vox. Whoever mixed this gets an A+. This track is gonna sound good up against Purple Rain live. Get yo lighters ready! 
Wall of Berlin He kicks it off with a great real drum beat that is pure rock and then segues into a trippy addicting groove. "Oh...where am I" he begins and right away you know its gonna be a fun track. Cant stop smiling on this track. Singing about a one night stand with a girl and the perils and oddity's that come with it. Prince definitely harkens back to his Sacrafice period of the early 90's when he really experimented with Rock with a splash of The Rainbow Children vibe. This time he nails it and than some with a blistering (and I mean blistering!!!) solo that is never ending!!! niiiice ok...so he has now made up for his corney "Just like the walls of Berlin" statement at the end of 3121. No shit Prince, like the walls of Berlin indeed!!! You've done knocked it down, tore it up, and its still going down!!!! Good lawd!!!! 
4ever This one was making the rounds as the most emotional and amazing song of the four. And is it ever. The song starts off with one of those Prince like beginnings that is always memorable when you first hear it. A very good sign. Prince at the piano singing about longing for a woman's touch and than breaks into a chorus that I have not heard from P in a longggg time. Multi-layered vocals that are legendary Prince. Inspiring. The kind that give me goosebumps and makes all of his female fans go nutso!!!cool!!! His emotional connection with songs is truly in true form with this entire song. I cant turn this song up enough its so damn good. It's classic Prince! All the elements are there...amazing groove, feel good vocals "4ever eternity is just what keeps me waiting..." and the guitar becoming its own special voice on the entire song. I think we have found the final song on the new CD. At 2:53 the climax begins and the next level of the song kicks in as only Prince Rogers Nelson can deliver. (yeah...I know what ya talking about P!) You cant help but feel these tracks. These songs easily rank among some of his finest work. And there's a whole lotta of it. Thank you Prince 4 all of it ~4ever. 10 outta 10 The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I like the cover.. not sure about the others.. i won't judge them on first listen.
i did that with Planet earth and got side swiped by an immediate enjoyment. the next day i popped it in and i tasted like someone dumped in my mouth when i pushed play. so.. i'll let them sink in | |

Colonized Mind More moronic lyrics. Bland, and I don't mean Michael, tempo. Sounds like a cousin to his version of When Will We Be Paid. Decent guitar that might work better in a live environment where he could drop the lyrics and solo away. In other words, 90% of the song is disposable. Crimson and Clover. Probably the best of the lot. Too bad it's not his song. Ultimately a decent cover with a good solo. Would be a passable b-side. He must really be out of ideas if he's got to rely on covers for new material. Wall of Berlin I've said in the past I think the reason Prince has never made a rock album is because I don't think he knows how. This song is further proof of that theory. Might be better live where the lyrics and restricted studio sound would be dumped and the amps turned up. Like Colonized Mind, 90% of the song is disposable. hence your name being "wall" I on the other hand really enjoy Prince singing about taking it down... no puns intended haha | |

4ever is alright. The hook is kinda simple "Forever!". And the "just a kiss away" he's already done on Lovesexy. But I'm LOVIN the guitar and drums on Wall of Berlin! Crimson and Clover (another remake...yawn). Stop with the remakes Prince! Hell he shoulda just released "Creep". It makes me laugh when he throws the "Wild Thing" lyrics in there though! (I think I love you). "Colonized Mind" is chill. The vocals and guitar work on the money! | |

so people are actually liking the new stuff for once?   i like them all too, for now. don't really wanna judge 'til i get the whole album though . colonized mind and the crimson and clover cover stick out the most at the moment. they were all very interesting, to say the least. the lyrics sound a bit more advanced over planet earth, but that's not saying much (mind you, i'm one of a few people that enjoyed it some ). really dying to hear the new album now   For all time I am with you, you are with me. | |
