 Couldn't agree with you more! He's basically 'marginalised' his creativity since the JW thing. Whereas before he could sing about this and that, making analogies with mysticism, astrology, and using his own language, etc - and not the bible's. Although Rainbow Children was about his conversion, at least we, the listener were taken on a new journey through it. Now his journey through human experience is over... although we still do get a glimpse of it on tracks like Musicology and Chelsea Rodgers. To cite one example of his JW beliefs turning one of my favourite Prince songs into one of the worst... The Cross/ The Christ... 'cross' is wider metaphorically, not just limited to Jesus. I know that some people love it, but I haven't listened to International Lover in about 15 years. I just can't do it.  It's the "few turbulence" part.  I just can't take it. Ruins the whole song for me. Even in the beginning of the song, I can't concentrate because I know it's comin'. Note to Prince: There is no such thing as a "turbulent."[Edited 10/21/08 16:16pm] | |
