see i'd rather buy a book like this with Prince in action doing his thing instead of a book full of uninspired, doctored photography and contrived poses like 21 Nights.

Both books r grear 2 me.I do like the live pics in the Life & Times book a bit more.I still wish he would have done a 3121-Vegas book.

Actually, Prince: Life & Times is probably the best book on Purps since The Vault. It's up to date and a very fun read. It's not fammy, nor is it harsh for the sake of being harsh. Chapters can be easily perused in one visit to the shitter.
It actually got me interested in our little litigious gnome again. Buy it before you buy 21 Nights, if you can't pop for both. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's embossed in a velvety finish. Feels kinda neat. The Jimi Hendrix Experience Box Set has a similar fuzzy package. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I've got a velevetty finish book that I made myself without a picture on it that looks nicer than that cover. The Vogue picture of Prince does not suit a "Life&Times," title...I won't buy it...It isn't Prince's doings. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

It's only $25 at B&N, that's where I picked mine up. A few throw-away magazines will set you back more. It really is a nice book. Except for the CD, my 21 Nights is just collecting dust. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Everything about the cover is horrible, except of course for Prince's appearance.
The font, which attempts to copy the title font of the Prince album, is off ... and the "distressed/spatter" technique doesn't work at all in this application. If they were going to copy a font style, the iconic Purple Rain font or even SOTT font would've worked better. The flower that dots the "i" is the ultimate in CHEESE. The cover is, of course, purple. Really thinking outside the box there. Also, the color effect on the photograph is done poorly. IMO, any photo from the UTCM/Parade era must be black and white. Period. The use of ONLY Symbol guitars on the cover is very narrow-minded and amateurish IMO -- it implies that he's only been playing guitar since 1994 and that guitar is best guitar. What would've been more impressive is a range of silhouettes from Hohner to Cloud to Auerswald Model C to Symbol. Sorry to bash this, but it is THAT bad and yes, I do this for a living. It pains me that one of the most talented musicians repeatedly gets some of the WORST graphic design in the business. Also, the cover is disappointing because from what I can tell, the inside pages are done pretty well ...

Oh, forgot to add that IMO reversing the symbol silhouette on the cover is taboo, especially when it wasn't necessary to do so.
The way it looks on the right side of the page, we're looking at the backside of the symbol guitar?

The way it looks on the right side of the page, we're looking at the backside of the symbol guitar? he's depicted as a peacock! that's his tail, silly!... displayin his colourful splendour & doing his bestest 2 attract the beautiful ones..in some kinda purple symbol upsidedownguitar hypnotic ritual however peacock feathers are supposed 2 be very unlucky, so maybe this book is doomed already

Tame... gluing pubes to your dream journal does not count. That's hilarious...I used a blue velvet dress, that I tore up the back...on my way to my high school reuinion...I had to go home and change...It was funny..It ripped all the way up to my hip right up the center of the back...woulda been too sexy to show up in...
