man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Okay..Im just going to air some family issues right here because Im going to try and explain something.
My father was very much like Prince's father in the movie, more so like Jake in Once Were Warriors, if u have ever seen that one. He drank a hell of a lot and thought nothing of smacking my mother around when it suited him.
Now I have two brothers, and despite the father we were raised with (until I was 14 and he left) both of them grew into fairly decent human beings. One brother in particular my father loved to run down verbally. This brother was the opposite to my father in every way and treated every girlfriend he had like she was a princess.....
Then one day he was with this woman (they had an on and off realtionship over the years) and they had an argument one night and he just snapped. In the middle of a verbal disagreement he grabbed her around the throat!!
It only lasted mere seconds, but he told me it scared the Hell out of him!! I think he apologised a million times and he never did it again because in that split second he saw himself as capeable of being just like our father.
Maybe thats what Prince was trying to get across in some way, that u can let ureself become just like that parent and all it takes in one second of lost control and bad judgement....or u can change the cycle, not let that control u and and become someone much better.

By the way, my brother has never laid a hand on another woman since

ur story is very similar 2 mine even tho i have had things thrown at me and even i was grabbed around the throat once, i never laid a hand on her cause i'm the one going 2 jail not her. so yes even i grew up in a household of domestic abuse but we all have that within us 2 either go with it or control it.

If there happens to be a part 2 to this move, I hope to see both The Kid and Appolonia married and draggin' their kids to some kind of therapy. You don't get involved with musicians if you're not strong enough to handle the pressures. Doesn't matter if they're big time or not. It takes a very big toll on a man or woman who is trying to make some money in this buisness. And the fact that they both wanted to "make it"....pshh..the rest of that story's and how that worked out gotta be told in Purple Rain Part 3...and perhaps part 4. LOL!

Ya know, I think Prince has a pattern with movies:

Purple Rain
Under The Cherry Moon
Sign O' The Times
Graffiti Bridge

... maybe?

I suppose he found what he did was wrong after his father killed himself, realizing, that this is where he might end up if he didn't straighten up his act

I am a survivor of severe child abuse and neglect....to this day they don't understand me because I don't think like them (my family) Which sorta explains the abuse...they lay hard into the strongest in the family because they are (in their minds) the weak one that could mess everything up and the abuse would be exposed.....I could never ever ever be like them... I'm terrified of the thought of them being my family even....They hurt others.... I can't do that... though I'm painfully aware of my inability at times to keep myself safe... it takes a lifetime.....I am proof it's a choice...though some people can't be helped....Which is the toughest thing for me to accept....

I don't approve of or condone violence against women in any way (since I am one), but I always laugh when I see that scene.

I don't know what it is about it all....I think it's the poor acting...

In reality, I wouldn't find it funny at all.

I haven't seen any movies of women backhanding men but I have seen plenty of movies and TV shows of women fighting men and winning.....Charlie's Angels, Wonder Woman, Police Woman. It's all entertainment and it's all fiction. It's acting.

The ultimate in special effects.

(But then Prince wouldn't have been able to make any sequels.)

I know GB was part two. I was being sarcastic...and obviously if Prince decided to make an actual "Purple Rain 2" I don't think Appolonia would be playing The Kid's wife "Appolonia".
