What a lame song...

It is not crap for sure, it is just an out-dated and slightly boring nice little funky tune

Problem is we have been hearing that same song for many years now (Pretty Man, The Work, Get on the Boat). You can feel a complete lack of inspiration, although of course the man can still put in a good deal of savoir faire

Prince has really lost his funk, his groove and his creativity. He is managing to survive only thanks to his back catalogue and his untouched skills as a live musician...

I would never have thought the day would come when I would see half a dozen of black artists being more creative and relevant than our little purple genius. This is really sad

Ah yeah ? Who is so creative nowadays ? Weird I don't hear them ? Oh please dont't go D'angello...
The state of black american music (I mean the radio stuff) is absolutely catastrophic.

Prince just wants to get back to his roots. That's what pleases him.
How can you say he lost his funk after listening to such a tight band (Turn me Loose) ?
Possessed or Irresistible Bitch were in the same vain back in the 80s but nobody annoyed him about his James Brownish sound. Prince was 'cool' back in the day.

Prince has mentionned years ago he was fed up with technology and electronic music and that he wanted to get back to real instruments.

There will be no musical revolution coming from Prince, just a great musician expressing his numerous talents.

That's fair enough with me. Turn me Loose is so tight.

I'm as proud as being a Prince fan when I listen to TML as I am ashamed when I hear Prince's production with Bria valente.

Wretched. It is entirely possible to maintain Prince fandom without having to pretend every last tired retro funk jam is a work of art y'know.

You know what anything retro (as you say so pejoratively) is 100 times better than anything young musicians are doing nowadays.

Yes I vote for retro.

Yes when I listen to my massive collecion of vynils, cds of music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, I hear better and tighter production, organic music, musicianship, talent all over the place.

Give me anyday a good old Sly, Stevie, James, Zappa, Hendrix, Santana tune over nowadays' porr shitty music.

Listen to KJHL. It is catastophic. Bria Valente's tune is really horrible.

So I'm glad when Prince gets back to his roots to play great music. Sorry for hearing good music when it is good music.

I'll clarify that the song isn't "wretched" in of itself. It's a perfectly proficient, cookie cutter 70s funk jam. It's that total lack of inspiration and repetition that is "wretched" IMO.

You list some great artists all of whom were fresh and created the peak of their genre back then. If we want retro funk there they are on the CD rack, the best at what they do. Whats the value of Turn Me Loose when we already have James Brown?

I'm playing The Slaughterhouse album as I type this. Not all the songs aren't particularly memorable but he at least sounded experimental and inspired by what he was doing.

So ok nobody should play old funk or rock'n roll anymore because it has been done already. Hilarious.

Btw Slaughterhouse is totally uninspired. That's Prince not knowing what to do anymore with new technology. Well Slaughterhouse is a brillant example of Prince repeating himself.

People do not hear good musicianship when it happens anymore. It is so sad. As a musician, I appreciate when I hear a tight band. It has become sa rare.

Now Hide The Bone is an enjoyable track. That was a mid 90s Prince take on funk rather than a total regression back to his 60s/70s childhood.

"The Work Pt 10" is the latest in a line of tribute covers.
