The funny thing is that it was not actually him, but rather yourself, that got you "to sit on the giant cupcake again".

Exactly.

That story about the reviewer being asked to listen to 3 records but not divulge anything about them is a true story - but it was from the "Emancipation" album, I think. Maybe even "Crystal Ball" (the forerunner to "Sign O' the Times").

Someone has been saving that for a looooong time.

Yeah, i just heard it too! Nice song! Kinda reminds me of "Sweet Thing"
It's better than Here I Come, vocally IMO.

Man I was waiting all day for the announcement then read the posts, I dont know how it missed it.

He is promoting her on the radio and leakin info on his new albums at the same time so maybe his plan is to release them both together. Curious

What also disturbs me about this Bria mess is that like Airbak said, P has such an amazing ear and eye for talent when it comes to his own bands. Look at all the phenomenal musicians and great music that he's introduced us to through his bands over the years. Then on the flip, look at the steaming piles that have been released by his "proteges." It's actually insulting, which is why I don't buy this kind of garbage.

What's sad is that if Shelby or Marva - real singers - wanted to put out an album now how much time and effort would Prince put into it? It reminds me of what Rosie Gaines said years ago when she basically said that if you weren't sleeping with Prince he wasn't interested in promoting/producing an album for you. That was back when Prince ignored her solo project and instead poored money and time into Carmen Elektra - yet another talentless wonder, another in a long line of bedmates disguised as a singers/rappers. Thanks but no thanks. rolleyes

Well, it is the same old thing. Let us complain about one of P’s protégée’s. If P produced, a song for a female singer that could sing none of you would go out and buy it. Let us face it woman singers who can really sing are not appreciated or marketed by the music industry and therefore they suffer from low sales.

P is only involving himself with artist (used loosely) that may have the potential to sell records. I would love to see him work with better artist but is the public interested in real musicians and singers. Hell no !!!!

I hope he is going to go behind the scenes and work as a songwriter or producer now but, I certainly do not expect him to work with an all male band or a talented singer because nobody buys those cds.

I finally heard the song and it's exactly as I suspected; another attractive woman with weak vocals over watered-down Prince music. The title sums up P's inability to grow/mature/move on pass these "collaborations." Instead of continuing the "real music for real musicians" theme, we get a grown woman singing about "Another Boy?" I just can't take this seriously. BYPASS!!!

PS For the person who said this bubble-gum derivative sounds like "Sweet Thang," no disrespect, but that's a REALLY shameful comparison. Any song off of the Vanity 6 or Appolonia 6 albums would be more suitable.

While I agree that people nowadays have been trained to like crappy "music," do any of Prince's crappy protegees do well in album sales? Conventional wisdom would scream no but I'm asking if anyone knows otherwise. Seems like they just end up in the bargain bin alongside the talented, yet slept on, artists.

I disagree. People who enjoy/support quality are sadly in the minority but still exist. And, to my knowledge, none of these Prince protegees make any REAL money selling records. When he considers all the money that he pours into getting them started and promoting them, it can only be a loss for him. They don't have much talent and many, after their "stint" with Prince ends, do not continue singing because THEY'RE NOT SINGERS TO BEGIN WITH, ONLY OPPORTUNISTS. They use his name/fame to springboard acting careers for the most part.

The other day, I was thinking about the success of writers like Ne-yo and that could be Prince. He could write/produce songs for artists like Beyonce or others who are highly marketable and still manage to carry a decent tune. Everything doesn't have to be a 100% Prince production or discovery.

Wrong. I have all of Sheila's CDs even though she's not a great singer she is a talented musician who along with Prince has produced some good music. I bought Mavis Staples' CD and Rosie Gaines because they were ALL talented singers. So, if the ARTIST is talented I don't care whether she is female, a pinup girl or anything else. I will support talent. And in terms of Prince supporting these chicks because they have potential to sell records, are you kidding me? How many records have Mayte, Carmen, Robin, and whoever else collectively sold?

His proteges are short lived and don't sell jack shit. The only album success was Sheila and that's because she was an actual musician!
I just hope he's claiming this crap ass investment as a tax write off...you know, as in profit loss!

Nobody's talking about Sheila. She had a career before, during and after Prince.

AGREED! These chicks collectively haven't gone plastic in record sales and once you subtract P from the mix in terms of writing, producing, playing the music, funding/promoting and SCREWING them, there's simply no interest from other industry professionals to work with these chicks - well musically anyway! I doubt if anyone in the biz takes his "protegee parade" seriously anyway. This is why these chicks end up doing what they know, which is using their looks to get by. Look, Prince is free to do what he wants. However, when he's spending so much time working on these dead-end "artists"/projects, it takes time away from his work on the brilliant creations we know he's capable of sharing with the world.

First, of all I am not talking about the past I am speaking of the present. If you take a good look at the music charts, we have very few talented female artist selling CD’s in large volumes.

I think Sheila E, Mavis, and Rosie are great talents but with the exception of Sheila E, you did not see people running out to buy any of t hose artist’s music.

As far as the other bimbos, they lacked the promotion that the bimbos of today have. I don’t see any difference between Vanity and Carmen from Ciera (My Goodies) and some new chick ( I do not know her name) who is strolling around in a new video with her boobs hanging out of her shirt.

Sex sells get over it. If P wants to stay in the game as a songwriter or producer he will have to work with some bimbos. Besides what male singer or group could work with him without punching him out.

So if sex sells, then why aren't P's proteges going platinum? Don't they have enuf sex to go around and down and all thru town? eek

I think P could/should work with a boy band, some teens who would idolize him and go with the program. He could sex them up make them look cool, have them play all their instruments (on stage of course) throw in some high power dance moves and sexy lyrics then voila!! you got yourself a platinum act. JTimberlake woulda made a good male protege or them Jonas Bros.

The only female protégée he has out right now is this “Bria” and we do not even know if this music has been or will released officially.

He did good with Sheile E and Vanity Six back in the day. He can’t do any worst them some of the other non-singing chicks that are out now.

You guys needs to stop looking at P as if he is the only “Bimbo” promoter in the industry. He is not the only one. It is the nature of the entertainment business and P is just a part of the industry.
