Any love for the symbol album?

I just replied to a new fan that the symbol album would be a good one to get. I always say that it is my favorite. While I have trouble saying any Prince song or album is my favorite, the fact that it was my first album gives it a special home in the Prince section of my brain.
Does anyone else share my adoration for the symbol album?

Absolutely.

this one actually rose to the occasion and overtime, has become one of my 7 favorite albums.

There's just so much variety of genres here and there's a little something for everybody. The only downside is that its not overally cohesive and some storyline elements are thrown in that make no sense in the whole.

Half of the songs will make you want to dance and the other half are just so many ballads that make you melt.

My favorites tracks include:

7 (one of my favorite all-time Prince songs, a perfect pop song)
Damn U
eye wanna melt with u
The Max
Continental
The Sacrifice of Victor

cloud9 The instant I heard Gold’s first note, it became Prince’s mark on my soul: a tattoo I wear with pride.
mushy Prince is Dreamy, gives my Life that Pop and 2 the industry, he’s Royalty. cool

The good: The morning papers, 7, blue light, and god created woman
the average:sexy mf, i wanna melt with u, the max, the continental. love 2 the inies
the embarassing: 3 chains o' gold, arrogance, sacrifice of the victor, the flow, damn u... the rapping was cringe inducing at times.. i give it a 6/10

Glad that this album is getting some love. This is perhaps my favorite Prince album of the 90's. "The Morning Papers" is an underrated Prince song IMO. Hell, this entire album is underrated.

It's a damn fine album. I was never a huge fan of MNIP, but it's quite good after that. And all these years later, "All I'm trying 2 say is that my psychodelic shouts..." is still one of my absolute favorite vocals he's ever done.

tony m's rapping almost runied sexy mf, love 2 the nine's and so on ... prince isn't a hip-hop artist.. prince should always stick 2 funk/r&b/pop.rock/new wave... for the most part the rapping was embaraasing. i like his talking songs such as irresistable bitch and bob george and so on

the symbol album is alright.. there are 5 or 6 flat songs on that album.. that's why it's not a classic. 3 chains of gold is a mess

Great album.

I was in the Virgin record store in NYC this week and there some 15 copies of the CD in the discount bin.

A good find if you don't have it.

There is nothing to be objective about when giving an opinion. It is through my subjective tastes that leads me to liking the entire album. Saying that the album was released in 1992 is an objective statement. Get your terminology straight.

I agree with this assessment.

I listenned to that album so many times I wore out the original cassette I bought the first year. lol

I converted at least 3 people to Prince fans because of that album.

I got to dig this one out. It sure had a lot of great gems on it like "The Morning Papers" and "Love 2 the 9s". Frankly, it was a case where Prince should have made the album solo....NPG was not helping him (especailly the rapping...damn!).
