Oddly enough, I've never heard this track. Is it worth digging up from the Interwebs?

Andre Cymone's version is just Prince's version, but with the lead vocals replaced. So yeah, it's worth it.

A hint to what I always felt should have been P's follow up title track to the Purple Rain album. I think P should have kept this for himself and released it as his new album "The Dance Electric" instead of ATWIAD, which I always felt should have never been released.

I agree with you 100%
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Wow. The album or the song?

To me, ATWIAD is TOTALLY what made a Prince fan. After Purple Rain, to just turn it around and do something different, to me was something wonderful.
Esp with all the images Prince & The Revolution bestowed us with; from art design to music, from lyrics to funky outfits; everything. And some of the best b-sides of his carreer.

And what most Purple Rain fans do not realise is that some of the songs on ATWIAD were actually recorded before and during the Purple Rain sessions, that just kept on going.
To me, both albums are linked in more ways than one.

LOVE that jam.

Prince most definitely should of kept it 4 himself, and released it as a B-Side of a 12"...

Some of the baddest Linn drum programming EVER.

Oh trust me, I know that some of the tracks from ATWIAD were cut before some of the PR songs. And that's all fine and well. I wasn't a fan of the overall album when I bought it the day it came out no more than I am a fan of it now. Most of the cuts on there, I never liked. The track "Paisley Park" I've always liked. Especially the 12'. I never dug Pop Life for some reason. Never been crazy about the way P's vocals sounded on that song. And Sheila's drums are way too loud in the mix. I like "Temptation" only because of the guitar. I can't stand Rasberry Beret. Never dug that song. The songs that I like from this album are the b-sides. "She's Always In My Hair" should have been the lead off single. "Hello" is bangin as well. Those two songs smoke everything else on that whole album to me.

Totally agree. The ATWIAD album is when I knew I'd be hooked for life. I found it to be a very bold and creative move on P's part.

But back on topic - The Dance Electric is one of the best jams ever! The video was funky too! Too bad Andre didn't have a strong follow up single to that song. His career may have blown up if he had.

Notice I didn't mention "Girl".....The song is definately a b-side no matter when it was released. U could tell right off from the jump that it was an older recorded song. Which was fine. It's pretty cool. I like the keyboard melody.

I noticed. I just wanted to mention it because for several reasons I have Girl in my top 5 of most listened to songs by Prince.

I love the song. I always thought he recorded that song in the studio all on his own and that it deals with him IMAGINING a girl, him being lonely. It makes the song more... real.

nod Imaging how good AWIAD would have been if "The Dance Electric", "She's Always in my Hair", and "Hello" were on it instead of like say "The Ladder".

Imagine what a re-issued version of ATWIAD would sound with all the extended b-sides and extended versions of the singles?

Dance Electric would do better on the second Purple Rain bonus disc...with Prince vocals.
