Just finished reading DMSR - 'parts' lifted from his book? It now seems to me that 'Possessed' is practically a carbon copy of 'DMSR', with a little bit more added at the end and lots more negativity, and as much dirt digging as possible thrown in!!

I much preferred Per Nilson's book, really enjoyable read, much more objective ... AND WHAT'S THIS? Some really positive comments / quotes about some of the things Prince has done - charitable work, kindnesses, good stuff, that were the only things LEFT OUT OF Alex Hahn's book!! eek

People have been saying that DanceMusicSexRomance is probably the best book on Prince out there... unfortunately out of Prince... but its got the positive POV as well hmmm
Maybe it is worth putting on my gift list razz
That'll be a fun conversation. "Hey dad, I want a book on Prince for my birthday, but you have to get it at amazon.com because its out of print" falloff
He tried to find Emancipation for me and couldn't... probably because he was looking for a brand new copy wink not one that was used. Used albums are pretty useful. One person's used becomes my "brand new" giggle

Anyway, I'll have to see about this one wink

It's definitely worth getting this one Dreamy.... highly recommended!! Not too expensive either for the paperback smile

I just finished Chapter Five of DMSR, and I agree that it is more positive. Will have more to say when I finish it.

Alex should correct his mistakes in the book and add new info after the Musicology Tour.

I think it isn't as cut and dried "Rise and Fall" with Prince.

Even though P may have had sad things happen like his parents and sisters passing and his divorce he still keeps making music and touring.

He isn't holed up in Vegas or living in The Middle East "promising" to make a comeback. He is working even with his ups and downs.

I just finished reading DanceMusicSexRomance by Per Nilsen, and I wish I had read it before reading Possessed by Alex Hahn. Nilsen has more respect for Prince and focused more on the work than the personality of the artist. Seems with Hahn's background as a lawyer, he couldn't resist making a "case" out of Prince. The whole legal fight between Warner Bros. and Prince was downplayed in Nilsen's book while Hahn couldn't get enough of it. It would be great if Nisen could write more on P's 1990s and 2000s work.

I've read about a good 70% of the book and it is quite informative and well written. However, like most of us here, I would say that the author did portray Prince in a rather negative light.

But I'll bet you he was kicking himself in 2004. When Hahn concluded in the book that Prince had forever been relegated to obscurity, he came back and showed everybody what time it was.
