OTHER ARTIST ALLOW THEIR WORK TO BE VIEWED SO WHY NOT PRINCE?

I think this is a good topic of discussion if it hasn't been one before. But sincerely, since other accomplished artist and musicians have their work available on the internet, youtube, etc. why doesn't Prince? Think about it, prior to the internet their was MTV in which most artist begged for their material and content to be viewed. So what is the big difference now? I would love people to want to see my bands performances! And to add to that, true fans still would buy the video or concert if it were made avaialble. In regards to Prince, I already have most of his videos and yet I still bought the items that he finally released on VHS or DVD. We all copped Purple Rain, UTCM, Graffitti Bridge when it was availalbe on VHS, and we still copped it again when it was re-released on DVD. So you can't use the argument that it is about sales or ownership. Someone else like to chime in?

Prince and his oofshoot groups were never MTV favorites, maybe only just after Purple Rain did they show any intrest in him, Madonna and MJ were always MTV favorites,..now as to why he doesnt let his videos and such on youtube etc, well basically he doesnt want them there, just respect the artists wishes.
simple isn't it?

Look, it's not about respect. Your not geting the jist of the question. The question is why is it such a problem for him that people view work that is already completed and packaged, so to speak, for our viewing plez-sha! It was made to be viewed no? So why is it a problem? He is not getting hurt in the pockets from it. People can see Stevie Wonder, Sananda Matriaya (who pushes his video's on his own myspace page), the list goes on and on. What is the issue? He is already paid. Their is no current website where we can purchase the videos, nothing off of ITUNES we can purchase accept Black Sweat. LOL! Cmon'! I mean I tolerate a lot of things from a lot of artist but something about this I truly don't get.

That's too easy. I want a reply with more substance. I've been a fan for years of MANY talented artist including Prince. Fans say the darnest things at times for ANY artist. Look at Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, etc. They've gotten pummeled with negative spew from folk but you still can view, buy, purchase, download their material. If I wanted to view something by Prince it isn't possible. And he is a music performer who makes his living off of the "viewing/listening" public. He really is starting to change my entire perception of him as one of my favorite artist. He starting to make me feel that he thinks too highly of himself. And I never seen him in that light until just a few years ago. The PFU and such have really brought this out of me.

Just becuz other artists deal with negative comments..doesn't mean that Prince isn't tired of getting torn up.

It seems that a lot of people like to use Prince's material as a tool to insult. Prince is probably tired of that, and once again...Prince likes to be seen for the man he is today not yesterday.

To not allow people who dislike you to not view your work at the expense of those who love your work? Nah, something wrong about it. You can't even see "today's Prince" people! I wanted to peep the S.H.O.E. video and can't even see it. Heck I'd buy the video if it were for sale. Does anyone get me?

that's for sure. Prince is all about money now a days. Too bad he makes choices that stop him from getting money as opposed to helping him. But that's Prince, always traveling the road no one travels.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I do not think there is any rational answer. he says he wants to provide it for us for free. But until then why not let yputube provide free advertisement for his music? I can see talking down unreleased stuff. But a video of KISS can only help sell copies of the albums it is on.

He does not want free advertisement from what I gather. I think, if I can even try to understand, is that once you sit back and allow people to share videos, most likely you will start seeing a lot of unreleased and unoffical footage appearing. Maybe that is the problem...i don't know. shrug

I also don't understand why P would not allow his work to be on youtube. It can't possibly hurt and can only help. I've seen some wonderful clips on youtube.....some stuff from my childhood that I never thought I'd see again. It seems like every artist that I can think of allows their work on youtube, except the artist I love the most. sigh

I think Prince needs to follow the lead of Trent Reznor, whom IMO has fifty times the class and brains.

I met Trent in a bar. True story.

I don't know about brains as we only spoke briefly. But he definitely exhibited class, humility, and professionalism.
