Been listening to the O(+> album...

This album has been given many names because its name is an unpronounceable symbol that we all know too well. I’ve heard “Symbol,” “Androgyny,” but I think “The Love Symbol Album” is not only the most popular, but I feel like it’s the most accurate description for the album. An album that’s filled with so many beautiful love songs and overall promotes a positive vibe.

Androgyny, I heard this name from an interview, and I suppose that could work just as well. I’d prefer to think of the album as an excellent representation of Prince’s Gemini nature. Not only does he go on about pride and manhood (My Name is Prince, Sexy MF), but he also turns on the charm and puts out, in my belief, some of the most beautiful love songs he’s ever written. mushy
He combines love songs with others that just plain fun and make u wanna dancing jig

With prince, he uses love in so many different ways with so many different genres. On top of that, some of his most beautiful vocals can be heard in “Love 2 the 9’s,” “Damn U,” “God Created Woman,” and “Sweet Baby,” just to name a few.

It’s a long album, but has so much good material that I feel like it’s been overlooked. I’ve listened to it a few times over the past few days, and I think each time, it just keeps sounding better and better. There’s something in here for everybody, me thinks.

So let’s show this album some love. cool

prince is probably my favourite of his 90s albums.

Love symbol was right back then in 92, before we knew it was to be his name for the rest of the decade

Nice review DreamyPopRoyalty...This album used to keep me company on many wintery snow days in an antique home I used to own...Beautiful vocals throughout...have warmed my heart over and over again.

Rather than look at the symbol as androdgynous, which it is...that are together...I have always viewed the symbol as having the invisible fine line of seperation between the male and the female.

Prince may not view this symbol this way...Prince may believe it a concept of the male and female are born together...However....I like to look at the symbol as always coming together...As the Greek poet, Khalil Gibran has said..."Together you were born, and together you will be forevermore...but let there be spaces in your togetherness...for the Oak Tree and the Cypress grow not in eachother's shadow." To me that is Love 2 the 9's.

prince is my damn album right there! I love it and it fights with The Gold Experience as my favorite from the 90's. It should have been a bigger hit than it was cause there was some classic music from that CD.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Great album.

I really didn't like 'Diamonds & Pearls' that much, so when this came out, I was like... "he's back".
"He's a musician's musician..."

It was spoiled to me because 2 Whom It May Concern and the freakiest/best line of that song; "Tommy Barbarella likes it in the dark, but we like a Blue Light"

Then the actual Blue Light became a bit... shallow for me.

I wish he would remix Blue Light with the sound of 2 Whom It May Concern...

I always named "Sign O' the Times" and prince as my favorite 2 albums... until "The Rainbow Children" came out. nod

prince is the only one, besides TRC, that I play from beginning to end.

Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

I can definitely tell that I'll be dealing with the same kind of duel. It's really difficult to pick just one favorite. I mean, I thought that TGE was my favorite since I had really gotten to like it. But that was before I had the majority of my collection (which I got over the summer).

I still stand by "Gold" being my favorite song, but a favorite album is something a little more complicated. The 80's has something special about it that I doubt I can say that any album beyond can compete. That's part of why favoritism doesn't work. I'll get to TGE soon enough, then I'll see how I feel about it then, haha.

There's one or two weaknesses about this album.

There was a storyline involved, following the promo named "3 chains o' gold," but due to cropping and editing a lot of that is lost. The only clues left are in songs like My Name is Prince, 7, 3 chains o' gold, The sacrifice of victor, and of course, the two segues. I can sorta piece something together based on that alone, but there's a lot of blanks. Therefore this album, which is one that tells a story, has a storyline that is ultimately lost on the cutting room floor. It puts a damper on my belief that when Prince writes an album, there's a message he's trying to get across, a reason for writing it. When the storyline was lost in editing, I think what he ultimately decided was that he wanted to put all of this great material into one album, where a lot of his best love songs end up.

And the 2nd weakness is simply the song "3 chains o' gold." I'm not too big on Bohemanian Rhapsody, or so I wasn't at the time I was listening, but it felt like a rip from that song. It also feels like he was trying too hard to write an epic number, something that'll leave a big impression much the way Purple Rain and his other title tracks have. It's my strong opinion, very strong, that he doesn't need this song to make a big impression. There's enough great material here that this is unnecessary.
In fact, by keeping this in, he hints at the lost storyline, so it makes little sense as it is. "7" could be interpreted some other way so the storyline can be out completely. One instrumental break in "God created woman" feels like a precursor for the ultimate vibe of this song.

While I don't quite understand "The Sacrifice of Victor"'s place in the storyline, I love this song. It's just so fun and promotes a positive message. The people he has sing background on this track really give it that extra boost of excitement during the chorus cool
