yes he is a mad nutter, but i think you will agree that you were not mugged and beaten by Prince's lawers like Marland continually portrays you guys, like some kind of faux glitter martyrs or something.

Please feel free to show me where I have ever said princes' lawyers have "mugged or beaten" anyone

Please don't put words in my mouth, it gives a totally false impression and is misleading

I have referred to legal thuggery, and if you had read the emails from knob sheriff on princes behalf to the owners of the websites like this one it IS legal thuggery

This guy got a removal notice from Youtube, so there is no comparison with the threats against Ben and the other admins which came directly from princes representatives

That correspondence threatened the site, the owner and the owners assets

I'll make the point again, I entirely agree with an artist protecting his/her intellectual property rights

This, to me, doesn't fall into that category, its simply petty

They should concentrate on real intellectual pirates first, then mop up nonsense like this afterwards

It demeans the whole legitimate attempt to protect an artists property by targetting something that, in the great scheme of things, is trivial

Prince like most recording artists makes his money on residuals, and the company that collects the residuals for him gets a cut, and they want to make sure nobody takes advantage of them or their client Prince, plain and simple.

Im sure you agree that nobody was out to "get" you,... and that because of your heading in your video, the video was tagged for removal.
But seriously Do you feel like a victim? lol or do you feel people were doing their job in a free market economy?
wink

I feel like a victim in the sense that I was targeted as if I was some DVD counterfeiter (it takes ages uploading them videos, then all my work is undone when the vid is removed), no big deal though, any future vids I do, I'll leave off the Prince tag, it won't show-up in a search then.. And yeah the people were doing their jobs but you have to admit they are over zealous wankers, no? I certainly won't stop making videos of my home town with music playing in the stereo, Prince or not.

Absolutely. In fact, I think it probably says that on their business card.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

AYYYY CARAMBA! You continue to miss the boat, NOBODY is targetting poor little youtube baby or cabdriver dude, they are not the target, nobody is sueing them or going after them, can we agree on this?

Ben and the guys from Housequake are still here, the org is here, BUT remember it was those VIDEOS on Housequake that seemed to raise the Paisley ire.
And to be Honest that was what i went to Housequake for, ...the cool videos!
And I think it sucks that they are gone.

Lets be honest, Housequake was left notice to remove the videos they went back and forth, played a game of chicken with them and lost. And are now playing the part of scorned lovers, lol ,enter the PFU's

Chill out this is only a fan website,
Go vote for Prince at the NME website like a good little fanboy, this is not about Imperial Prince Starship out to get you!
Its about a old bussiness model trying to survive, desparately tring to adjust to new challenges and new technology.
Are they right in how they are treating their hardcore fams? absolutely not!, but i do see where they are coming from.

Ok lets seperate this into two parts, Youtube and piracy

The Youtube people were targetted, if they were not, the material wouldn't have been removed

Cab driver received a simple removal notification so no great drama there

Dancing baby lady on the other hand was threatened with a variety of legal action and, as a result, has now taken out an action against Universal I believe

A little over the top considering she is a housewife not The Pirate Bay

Its using a legal sledgehammer to crack a walnut

With regard to piracy, you have just made my point for me, I didn't see one mention of videos on the org, it was all about housequake

Not being a visitor to housequake I can't comment on what it was like there but if videos were featured then there are legitimate grounds to complain about intellectual property theft

That doesn't justify the legal threats about "defamation" from knob sheriff in relation to the org statement on what the legal threats were!

That was a blatant attempt to stifle free speech

The reason the org is still here is many of the legal claims are spurious and inaccurate

For a fansite the org has a remarkably low amount of copyright content, and the stuff that does occasionally appear is removed by moderators as soon as it is spotted

Regarding the legal threats, a reasonable definition of a threat is "words likely to cause harrassment, alarm or distress"

The threat doesn't have to be carried out, it is still a threat, and, under certain circumstances, is in itself illegal

If I was a housewife filming my kid in my own home and subsequently received legal threats from one of the biggest companies in the entertainment industry and one of the biggest international artists ever, I would feel "harrassed, alarmed and distressed"

As for what this is about, its about parasitical companies like knob sheriff justifying their existence and making money by legally threatening people, a bit like the infamous practice of ambulance chasing lawyers in relation to intellectual property

I work in intellectual property protection so my stance is obviously pro IP protection

However, if I handled one of my clients fanbases in the shoddy, tawdry and unprofessional way this has been dealt with, I would be out of business in a heartbeart

I sincerely hope thats what happens to knob sheriff

So its ok for a housewife to hire ambulance chasing lawyers, but not ok for an artist to seek every legal way to protect their work?

as for

I will call you out on this one, I sincerely doubt that you are pro IP, with all your childish "knob sheriff" and pirate bay comments.
anybody who is truly pro IP would be glad ANY services like web sheriff existed, and would trash Pirate Bay at every instance

And no to be mean, but, any client you suposedly have should ditch you asap,...really.

I prefer to work on legal facts rather than legal threats and thuggery

As for ambulance chasing lawyers, no I don't agree with anyone using them

They work on the basis of a company settling for £5,000 on any claim as its cheaper than instructing counsel to challenge said claim

Knob sheriff seem to work on the basis that if they issue sufficiently seriously sounding threats a person will back down

Not necessarily on the strength of the case, or its legal and factual basis

The one glaring example of that was the ridiculous threats surrounding their demand that an opinion exercised by the administrator of this site be removed

And lets face it, what sort of company resorts to claiming copyright on correspondence to people they are threatening in order to stop that correspondence being shown to anyone else

You do realise that would also exclude it being shown to legal representation?

Do you really think thats enforcable, let alone being an acceptable business practice?

As for the absurd assertion that anyone would be grateful for any a service that trashed The Pirate Bay, trashing people achieves nothing, accurate use of the law does

Much as you don't want to hear it but The Pirate Bays activities in Sweden are currently legal

If they were illegal the Swedish goverment would have succeeded in closing them down ages ago instead of failing

Issuing peurile statements that you are going to "get The Pirate Bay" etc achieve nothing except to make the issuer look an idiot and undermine less publicity seeking agencies attempts to bring people to task

I prefer to use the law, not make rash statements, claims I cannot reasonably back up with action, and to give my clients the best advice

My advice to clients in respect of The Pirate Bay would be to apply pressure on the Swedish government to change the law

Not leap up and down making stupid threats over what, regrettably, is lawful in another country because you don't like it

Now, what part of what TPB is doing in Sweden is legal didn't you get?

As for my client list, my clients are very well protected and not embarrassed by rash and inaccurate public statements

Nor are they embarrassed by doing business with a supposed businesswoman like you
