The remainder of his album is absolutely amazing. "Incense & Candles" is his best song in 20 years. It ranks up there with Purple rain. "Black Sweat" is also some of his best work. His latest protégé "Tamar" is featured on the "Black Sweat" video. I saw her in concert with Prince and had FRONT ROW tickets. For most of the concert I forgot that Prince was even there. "Prince filled the seats, while Tamar and the Twins stole the show!" Not that Prince's music of the last 3 years have been bad, its actually been quite good if you like jazz. Yet 3121 is more commercial. It has some sexual overtones and is very refined. If you like old school prince, then you will love this Album. Just don't judge it based on "Te Amo Corazon." I don't put much faith in humanity - 99% of people are morons, so it doesn't surprise me that someone likes "Incense & Candles." That song is ghetto trash. I think Incense and Candles is HORRIBLE along with The Dance, but others seem to like them. I'm not saying they're wrong...I just don't like them. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Hey, each 2 one's own. That's something people are here say a lot and I believe the same. I hate a few songs that people rave about, but I also love Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic which is heavily hated around here. So we're about even. I love both of those songs. The Dance, I think, is a masterpiece amongst an album of insignificance. Well, one of the masterpieces (The Word is the other). It's beyond brilliant for me. Incense & Candles gets little love as it is. It's more hit than miss, sometimes it doesn't work with me, but it kinda depends on my current mood. I find it to be a pretty seductive track mixed in with a few elements that people complain about (what he does with his voice and the rap- which I dig, I like the rap). And I've mentioned in a poem that I feel like the aura that surrounds him is as intoxicating as incense.   The instant I heard Gold’s first note, it became Prince’s mark on my soul: a tattoo I wear with pride.

I really happen to like that song, the music is great, the vocal delivery is cool, the vocoder voise doesn´t bother me at all. The only thing I hate about it is the lyrical content, this whole " I want to do it but then again not but maybe I will do it but not tonight but I really feel like doing it but we better not do it but if you take your clothes off I might really, really do it but then again maybe not but with me you never know because I´m really horny but I know we should not do it because we´re sinners if we do it but hey you and I know it would be great if we did it.."

It´s really the lyrical content I have a problem with, not the haunting, mesmerizing beat and infectious melody. It´s contemporary but still Prince. [Edited 10/30/07 13:03pm] Haha thats exactly how he performs his "love songs" old and new now yes. Like hes in total conflict, poor guy. 
I&C is an okay song IMO, just hard to put yourself in place of someone who is familiar with Prince's output and sees it as the best since 1984. Glug, glug like a mug | |

The song is a classic already...
MJ was a brilliant singer/dancer...best of all time, however, that's all he was. Let's not compare him to Prince, best musician of all time, but rather, compare him to someone like Sammy Davis Jr (who I don't hear anyone calling a musical genius). |

Actually I love 3121, but I do not listen to Incense and Candles (maybe only 5%-10% of the time if I'm enjoying the album as a whole).
