I went through this dilemma some years ago and sought advice at the time on the NPGMC message boards. 'Head' was the most popular response; you'll recall what happens to a wedding gown in that song.

I met my (now) wife shortly before Emancipation was released, and she really likes 'Betcha By Golly Wow'. The lyrics are very appropriate too, so that was our first dance. It was followed by Sly's 'Everybody is a Star'.

Our second choice was 'Xtraordinary', which I think would work well too.

If I was marrying a Preacher, I'd choose, "Courtin' Time."
If I was marrying a Doctor, I'd choose, "I love you in me"
If I was marrying a typical bad boy, I'd choose, Let's pretend were married."
If I was marrying a computer geek, I'd choose, "Erotic City."
If I was marrying an artist, I'd choose, "Da Bang"
If I was marrying a mechanic, I'd choose, "Lady Cab driver."
If I was marrying my x-husband, I wouldn't have a reception at all.

I got married on May 5th this year. We played several songs throughout:

Arboretum= She came out to this instead of the traditional bridal march (makes me tear up everytime I hear it)

West- We played as guests were arriving (although I had to edit this to remove the last heavy part)

P's Version of Betcha By Golly Wow- that was our first dance.

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World- Father and Daughter Dance

Kiss-The Garter song

And virtually everything else throughout the reception..

A few years ago, I was engaged. My song was going to be "Power Fantastic".
I think that song is so beautiful! fallinluv

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

My wife and I did BBGW as well. We started dating in Nov 96 (Emancipation release) and it was very appropriate for us as well.

Bad part is that the band played the song 10 minutes before our first dance (as part of an ol'school medley). My wife and I were probably the only ones that noticed.

Aww, what a gorgeous first dance! I've always wanted to teach P to rumba to that song smile

I'd go with 'A 1000 Hugs and Kisses (possibly my all time favourite Prince song, I've only heard it once, live at the O2 but it had me bawling), 'An Honest Man', or 'Do Me Baby', 'Damn U' or 'Insatiable' if my family had gone home by then!
lol
I'm looking out for a purple dolphin.
