It always amazes me. There's loads of folk out there who still don't appreciate Prince as a guitarist. That's how I first got into his music.

I have guitarist mates who were really surprised when I played some of his classic performances, like the Hall of Fame gig, etc. 'He's pretty good isn't he?'

A lot. Go to a decent pub gig and you'll see most guitarist filling that role. So next time watch Prince as he approaches the dusty end and then tell me he's still singing

I was listening to some more last night and must say he really is very impressive and has this odd little style of his going on. It's hard to say whether he has one single tone that's his though as he really is an effects junkie. I guess the Boss pedals give quite a bit of fizz to his distortion (although Best of You was Prince using overdrive for a change) and his very heavy use of wah really gives him that hollowed-out sound when it's not being altered. His sound has quite a bit of bite at times but that is probably due to the Crybabies and his Hohner (is that a humbucker or P90 style in the bridge?). I'm guessing he uses Seymour Duncan's on his Strats as they are quite often the default for a lot of players wanting more balls to their Strat (I use Shed Pickups in mine: hand wound from a tiny little place in Cardiff (Dave Dearnely uses them A LOT!).

Right I'm tired (been on nights and not sleeping well this week 4/5 hours each day ) so am gonna stop rambling.

Did any1 think about Jesse Johnson?? bet he didn't make the list either.

but let's say first jimi hendrix is a legend.guitar god number 1.
he reinvented rock guitar and set standards that im affraid never will be topped.
prince can't never be that.

not only because he isn't able to be inovative
as much as jimi was on guitar.
but because its diffrent time period.

in a world of today we live in a instant society.
we live fast die fast ,go through a life without paying attention to little things that surround us.

prince will never be better guitar player because of iconic status of jimi.same goes for satriani,steve vai,even with the fact that they play guitar much better tehnicly then jimi ever did.

what are the facts? jimi died at the age of 27.he was too young,imagine what he could give to the music world if he didn't die.

prince at 27 was good guitar player but not as good as jimi.

but prince at 49 is for sure better guitar player then jimi .

today mesurments for amazing guitar players are some other guitar players like steve vai,joe satriani,eric johnson, not jimi hendrix.

i will always enjoy and respect jimi,he is number on or number 2 in my book (depends on the mood) but i can't be ignorant to say jimi is the end of all things on rock blues guitar.

thebanishdone, I think you misread the question. You stated that you thought Prince was better than Page, Clapton and, in doing so perhaps it also reads the other guitarists listed in this thread. You then proceeded to say that Prince is now technically better than Jimi was. Umm, not sure of the other people here but you have lost me a little.

It's nice to see this thread not becoming a flame war though, as is so easy in these petty debates.
