As far as lead guitar i mean, sure they don't really put it down but as for rhythm guitar both genius in their own right, Neil and Kurt are more known for songwriting, Even though they both can (or could, in Kurt's case) play, they're not technical or flashy at it--but what they play fits their songs.

some stupid magazine called Rolling Stone. Full of adverts almost no interesting thing about music. I do not consider RS as one of my fav. magazines. we do not stop playing because we grow old , we grow old because we stop playing

cloudguitar said: iloveannie said: He is very very very good. Spaced out ideas on music creation mind you what with all the out of body stuff and fasting before creating a solo and that. I remember owning a huge poster of Passion and Warfare when I was a kid! For me Satch is the more melodic of the two. Don't like the 'competition' shredders though as they bore the shit out of me after a minute or two. And for those of you who know not of what we talk, Steve Vai got a job as Frank Zappa's 'stunt guitarist' after sending in complete transcriptions of Zappa's music. Now that is serious stuff. He talks of spending several hours bending the same note to find new ways of expressing it, slacking of the strings and placing them in odd places in order to find the limits of the instrument, that kinda thing. And rigid practice of 8 to 12 hours each day! This is the kind of dedication to the instrument that some of us here are talking about! Exploring its every nuance and taking it, like Jimi did with Leo's creation, way beyond what it's purpose was originally for. [Edited 10/4/07 5:36am] I've seen vai a number of times, but at one gig in nottingham, he was dancing about, did a kind of prince scream, then looked a bit sheepish, and said 'i just want to be prince'! he was joking obviously, but i suspect he has a lot of respect for the guy!

Prince's diversity of style does set him apart imo. plus, how many of these guitarist's are singing while laying down the lead?

It always amazes me. There's loads of folk out there who still don't appreciate Prince as a guitarist. That's how I first got into his music.

A lot. Go to a decent pub gig and you'll see most guitarist filling that role. So next time watch Prince as he approaches the dusty end and then tell me he's still singing I was listening to some more last night and must say he really is very impressive and has this odd little style of his going on. It's hard to say whether he has one single tone that's his though as he really is an effects junkie. I guess the Boss pedals give quite a bit of fizz to his distortion (although Best of You was Prince using overdrive for a change) and his very heavy use of wah really gives him that hollowed-out sound when it's not being altered. His sound has quite a bit of bite at times but that is probably due to the Crybabies and his Hohner (is that a humbucker or P90 style in the bridge?). I'm guessing he uses Seymour Duncan's on his Strats as they are quite often the default for a lot of players wanting more balls to their Strat (I use Shed Pickups in mine: hand wound from a tiny little place in Cardiff (Dave Dearnely uses them A LOT!). Right I'm tired (been on nights and not sleeping well this week Warning: this site does contain nuts.

I have Jesse's "Bare My Naked Soul" CD. It's more rock and blues than his earlier solo stuff. I've always liked his playing and the way he can go from funky rhythms to rock solos. BTW--If you like funk/rock guitar playing, check out Stevie Salas.

prince is much better guitar player then clapton and jimmy page. in every aspect of guitar playing prince is better then clapton and page. im not sure clapton even knows to play rhythm on guitar name the aspects ... and how Prince is better... cause you should be able to if your gonna make a ludicrous statement like that... thebanishdone, I think you misread the question. You stated that you thought Prince was better than Page, Clapton and, in doing so perhaps it also reads the other guitarists listed in this thread. You then proceeded to say that Prince is now technically better than Jimi was. Umm, not sure of the other people here but you have lost me a little.

(Photo courtesy of Rolling Stone.com) PRINCE has topped a new U.S. poll to find the Most Underrated Guitarist. The editors of rock magazine Rolling Stone asked readers to list the top rockers who failed to make their 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time survey. The top five is: 1. Prince 2. Kurt Cobain 3. Neil Young 4. George Harrison 5. Ace Frehley. Congrats Prince, i saw that 100 list and i thought it was shocking he wasn't voted!!! he is an amazing guitarist, even if people don't like his music they can't deny that!!!!

clapton was great in cream but his playind detorieted as time was passing . he never moved out from pentatonic scale.he didn't improve like his friend jeff beck. while i consider jimmy page a great riff master, good rhythm guitar player,i find his soloing style very sloppy. when page solo on guitar you hear notes that he didn't want you to hear. that was especialy evident during his heroin addiction 1977-1984 prince is much better guitar player then clapton and jimmy page or if you want prince can play everything clapton and page can but can those two play what prince plays on 1+1+1=3 live from aladdin for example? 1. The pentatonic scale is the only scale Prince uses 2. How can your playing deteriorated, did he have one to many speedballs and forget how to bend a string? 3. Page was a guitar composer, thats what made him great... I've never heard Prince compose anything like The Rain Song, or even Tangerine. Thats because Prince's specialty is improv, which is sometimes mediocre. Prince doesn't compose guitar licks... 4.Prince can play everything they can play, in his style... But he can't play like them... I am a Rail Road, Track Abandoned
