The videos and music clips - fine. But, what's really going on with Prince?

As other have stated, Prince has every right to prevent copyrighted video and music clips, and copyrighted pictures from being posted. Personally, I don't agree with it and think it's a slap in the face to his fans, but it's his call.

On the other hand, the request to remove ANY images of him, even the ones he doesn't own, is not only ridiculous, but has absolutely no legal grounding. He's a public figure, and images taken of him can be used on sites like Prince.org.

So what's really going on? There's really no money to gain from this.

Is it something to do with his religion, as it was when he started dropping some sexually explicit songs from live performances or changing lyrics? He seems to want to rid the world off his image and indirectly stifle criticism of him. It's so over the top, and reeks of insecurity and narcisissm.

I'll always love Prince's music. I never really attached to him as a person because he was always distant, usually cold, and, for me, not engaging. I never understood why people deified him as a "great guy" when clearly he isn't. That's not to say, at all, that he's a "bad" person, but, the fact is no one really knows that much about him personally.

I think he's being a jerk, but I guess some of it is legally within reason, but there's a whole aspect to this that is completely ungrounded and I really wonder what's going through his head?

Have you ever looked at it this way? GOD made man in his image....

It isn't God made me, to impose or invade on someone else's image.

There is not a lawyer on earth , God-fearing or otherwise, who could use this argument to plead his case as it pertains to the subject at hand. lol

No, I really have never thought of it that way. It's cute that you're trying to justify Prince's actions with a religious-philosophical point of view. I might go along, at least in theory, if (a) you stick to this view across the board, e.g., basically no images of anyone, anywhere for any reason, ever, and (b) you recognize Prince's hypocrisy when it comes to "invading" images. Prince himself, has imposed upon or invaded plenty of other people's images during his career, but seems to have no problems with that, whether as simple as Theresa Randall's image on the cover of Girl 6, or dressing Appolonia and her cohorts in lingerie as he saw fit. Those are just two examples. People may say that those people agreed to those images, which is true, but Prince agreed to many of the images he now wants to shut down.

Dress it up how ever you like, it doesn't make it any better.

it's no longer about his image.. it's the 1st Amendment coming into play now.. he wants to control ppl's actions now and control what they say..

I always said that Prince is in the midst of a serious midlife crisis. Just listen to his last album.
Plus he is so used to control everybody in his life, that he probably thinks that he is able to control the rest of the world.
At this point I suspect he doesn't even have a woman that he can boss around. I hope he finds one soon that will be able to take his crap, so he can get off his fans backs.
Let him sue the entire internet if he pleases and see how far he will get with this. In the end he's only hurting the person he hates the most and that person is Prince himself. Nobody can tell me that man is anywhere near happy!
If he can't take it, how people feel or what they say about him on the fansites, it's probably best to retire. If he would stop making albums and concerts for the public, the public would sooner or later forget about him. Then he will probably cry about how his precious name isn't mentioned anymore.

I think it´s indeed really strange how much he´s changed in the last couple of yeras...he´s even weirder than during those last years of the symbol era ( 1998-2000, when he had reached an all time low outputwise, musically, live etc. before he came back hard with TRC and the ONA tour).

I mean, he´s been using a whammybar on his guitar , something he´s never done before since the start of his career, he´s working with that AEG company which is owned by a very rightwing person you´d never have associated with someone like Prince back in the good old days, he censors his old lyrics but runs around with the Twins ( nothing wrong with that, but it does look a bit strange after a while...personally , they don´t bother me but this is Prince who mutilates his old lyrics and then pretends to be Hugh Heffner ..WTF ? ), he´s shutting down websites and threatening to sue sites like youtube that are really the best promotion tool....it all doesn´t really make sense.
Sometimes, all his weirdness sort of made sense years later...the symbol era, his struggle for ownership of the masters, his predictions about the internet, the collapse of record companies etc.

But this time, I really wonder how he´s going to get out of this mess.

As much as I dislike what Prince is currently doing , I don´t think it will have an effect on how packed his shows are going to be. Most casual concert goers are not orgers or quakers anyway . It might hurt him a bit when it comes to sales but not when it comes to concert tickets.

Maybe Prince has recently read "Farenheit 451" and identifies with Captain Beatty.
