Guess what I just found out...

"Rave" was recorded, years before it was released! I was just listening to a previously done Mojo show on "Alien Transmissions from the Butcher's Vault" on emancipationradio.com which airs on Friday's at 10pm EST and there was a mix of "Batdance" that included snippets from the song "Rave"! This recording was made in the early 90's! I guess Prince has been dipping in that vault of his, after all! wink

Oh man these lists are so much bullshit. Moonbeam Levels was just as an example never part of these sessions. It was a track intended for 1999. I *could* give you the exact dates for all those recordings but guess I will leave that for another book coming up.

RUTJF 1 is NOT from 1 October 1988. It from June 1988 and does not include all the mentioned tracks.

RUTJF 2 is from July 1988. Still not the same tracks as mentioned.

RUTJF 3 IS though from October 1988. More accurate October 4th 1988. The sessions from this day (and probably days before too) included:

Big House
Breathless
Everything But U
Still Would Stand All Time
Elephants And Flowers
If I Had A Harem
Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic
Stimulation
By Alien Means
We Got The Power
Scandalous
The Voice Inside
Am I Without U?

Thanks for the input, Chastity.

As I understood it, the thread to which I was pointing was not attempting to describe the dates of recording sessions that contributed towards RUTJF, so much as the possible album configurations of the RUTJF project.

As you point out, the inclusion of Moonbeam Levels looks way off, and I've no idea what resulted in the poster including that track as part of a possible album sequence.

Rave wasn't the oldest Vault item on the Rave (1999) album.

I Love You, But I Don't Trust You Anymore dates back to 1983 (music, not lyrics). His 3rd Aug concert included an amazing arrangement of Joni Mitchell's A Case of You which, if he changed the words, would have been unrecognisable from the source. Which is what he did in 1999.

I posted this before and no one seemed to agree (maybe they weren't familiar with that particular arrangment as A Case Of You has sounded different every time Prince has aired it), but it's definitely the same, take it from me.

u don't have to have learnt that .... its very clear that alot of later released stuff was made written earlier... even music on planet earth sounds like it was written in different eras...
Rave screams late '80s -1990.

Planet earth screams mid '90's, well the 2nd part does!

and alot of the music on the PE album is sinmilar 2 emancipation... and .;... and ... it could go on.....
( all words arranged herein this post are the copyright of lovealotbare and can be quoted with the appropriate citation "lovealotbare" and weblink to the original arrangement of words! lol )

^It's a fake. Moonbeam Levels was 100% sure intended for 1999. The date it was recorded was July 6th 1982. It was NEVER intended for Rave.

Uptown's 'The Vault' suggests it may be the same song:

" ...although Prince is not credited for any input whatsoever to their song. They (Wendy and Lisa) may have intended for him to do some work on the song though, which is why it was mixed by Prince's recording engineer at the time, Chuck Zwicky."

Gohi

I wouldn't trust Chastity at all. I remember when 3121 first came out, he said that Get on the Boat and Prettyman were the exact same track just with new vocals. When anyone who knows anything about music knows the tracks are totally different. Of course, I contested his statement and some ass-kissers defended his false statement.

Pretty sure he likes to pretend he knows the inside scoop when in fact all he does is spread false information.

Mr.langebleu knows far more than I do and I can trust his word .
Could it be that Moonbeam Levels would have been included in the Rave album?

Several of the Batman side projects (Feel U Up) were from the 82-83 time period.

Mulefunk.

I have no additional knowledge on whether 'Moonbeam Levels was ever planned for inclusion on a configuration of 'Rave'.

I don't think anyone disputes that it was recorded in L.A. in 1982 (on the date that Chastity has given).

When I checked Uptown's 'The Vault' earlier today after the above postings, it does state that the song was included in one possible configuration of 'RUTJF' but I have no idea what the basis of this statement is. It's also true that 'The Vault' for all its facts, does include errors, or statements based on evidence at the time but which would now require some correction.

So I'm interested in a bit more information on the image posted by Rioub which I recall having previously been posted here. It would also be useful to know why Chastity is 100% certain that the item is a fake and that the song was never ever considered for a configuration of 'RUTJF'.

To enlighten some of you...

If you remember from Graffiti Bridge, the movie, when Prince was in his apartment going through sheet music, one of the songs that they focused on was...ta da...

"Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic"

So, he, definitely, had the song done, by late 1989/early 1990 because that's when the movie was filmed.

Moonbeam Levels was recorded on July 7th 1982. No relation to RUTJF at all. Remixed in 1988 together with Extra Loveable ... still NO relation at all. Moonbeam Levels was intended for 1999 ..... not for Rave. Great song by the way.

Even though I do respect Rioub a lot I think what he posted could be a VERY early track list for Graffiti Bridge. Still Moonbeam Levels is weird. I posted the real first set list of GB on Housequake. When they come back you can see it.

The picture is something I've had on my hard drive for years. No idea where it's from. It certainly appears to my eyes to be Prince's handwriting, but who knows. "Moonbeam levels" is certainly an unexpected inclusion on the tracklist, but it's not unknown for Prince to use old songs.
