The PRINCE VAULT IN DANGER

.....THIS IS FRIGHTENING!

Taken from the Star Tribune:

• TOM TUCKER: I'd say half the things I mixed for him never made it to a record. And half of his vault, right now, none of us have ever heard. Nobody but him. It's really a shame.

We tried to talk him into archiving everything when he was still with Warners. We were going to buy a convection oven and bake all the analog tapes, and archive them to digital. But at the last minute he pulled the plug. He said he didn't want anybody to hear all that music. Those old analog tapes are just gumming up down in his vault. And then what's going to happen if it's not in his will? What if it's in his will to destroy that stuff? That would be like half the Beatles' tunes being lost .

What do u thing about?

I'd love to hear whatever's in the vault but on the other hand, Prince has already released way more than music than the average artist releases in a lifetime.

If no more music was ever released, I wouldn't feel incomplete.

As an example of the other side, my second-favorite band in the last 15 years is the New Radicals. Their (or really HIS, meaning Gregg Alexander) one album is so good.

But it's the only album they ever released or ever WILL release. Yet somehow I am able to go on living, LOL.

Who would have imagined that the bootleggers would be the ones that preserved some of his legacy!

It is upto him, but as an important figure in American popular culture and music, I think there should be some sort of sense of duty to see it preserved - regardless of the author's feelings (say if Prince put in his will that they should all be destroyed).

This has been discussed before. We don't know what steps Prince has taken to preserve his library in the last 10 years. Tom is referring to P's decision prior to 1996.

Are you kidding me?? As much as a control freak as Prince is do you really think he would let his music catalog become ruined?

You guys are trippin'. You say it's his creation , he can do what he want. What if I created a cure for cancer and put it in some vault somewhere and said NANa NaNa Na Na, I've got the cure for cancer and you can't have it. That would make me a true asshole and that's what prince is being by not letting people here this stuff. Granted it's not exactly a cure for cancer, but it is something that would bring lots of joy and inspiration to lots of people and for him to throw it in a safe and let it rot SUCKS!

I could never work at Paisley. It would kill me being that close to the vault and knowing this stuff. I'd be so tempted. Maybe someone close to Prince can talk some sense into him?? It'd be nice to hear/see this stuff while those who would most appreciate it are still alive.

Prince can do what he like to do with HIS music.

I think he would have preserved his "vault" music.

But only God and Prince knows what he's done with it all.

Well find it hard to believe that he would so poorly preserve his music. Being realistic about this, I think he has it covered. My question is why everyone keeps trippin about everything, is he dating the women in the primere photos walking with him?, is he dating the twinz, who cares... Just because he has women around him, does not mean he is dating them. If people payed a little more attention to their own business, perhaps they would not have so many silly questions. mad

give the man some privacy and something he can call his own, it's not as if he hasn't released hundreds of songs alreay. and besides, the point of a vault is to preserve and keep safe.

I do believe Prince will have it destroyed , he had his Purpl;e house destroyed when he moved so that his family wouldn't fight over it, and he doesn't have a child to leave it too, he knows his music will be mistreated, I can't say I blame him. It's a sad thought though.

If prince doesn't want the public to ever hear it is cool I guess,..... but it should still be preserved.

I'm guessing someone like the Smithsonian or other scholarly organization would take it and take real good care of it.

Heck, I imagine that if he donated the recordings to the Jehovah witnesses they would take real good care of them as well.

Not to be presumptuous to think that it would have scholarly or sociological merit,.....just saying, lol razz

or just give it me, I promise wont let nobody else hear it and it will all be ....umm baked..and digitized and stuff like the article said razz

actually, i do. even if what's been leaked is a fraction of what's actually in the vault, it's still a big chunk of music. who else has so much unreleased studio material floating around these days?

If Prince does have a vault with a lot of material, (don't you all sometimes doubt this?) It would be a shame if it was destroyed.

I've never seen any definitive statement about what happens to the Vault when P dies, but I did read that Stevie Wonder wants ALL his archive material destroyed on his death. And he's been just as - if not more - prolific as Prince during his career. If this happens, I know it's up to the individual artist but, sheesh... what a tragedy. sigh

They would sell them to the highest bidder. Which would be good for us all.
Dont forget, they're a billion dollar business after all.
