confuse Just wondering why the opening lyrics to this song are not "dance the dance electric" like Graycap23 said they were gonna be here. wink (Fun starts around post #97.)

Great tune...the music is better than the vocals. Nice Pop tune, sounds like a track that most Prince fans should like. Did I say, I loved the music?...

Score: 7.5 (out of 10)

OK. I've now raised this song up 2 "masterpiece" level. It is Epic in all the right ways. The buildup is fantastic, and Prince at his absolute "best".

I highly suggest that everyone seriously listen 2 this song, and album, when U have a CD of it. The parts just jump outta nowhere. Please also throw away any mp3 versions U may have after U get the CD. Trust me.

Amen 2 That!
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

Love this track.
Cool intro with the Piano.
Awesome ending with the wicked solo but I can't stand the music breakdown in the middle.
I just can't believe all the things people say !

Nice track. Add me into the camp that's not too crazy about the bridge. . .don't hate it, but it's just o.k. But I love the vocal harmonies throughout the song! I didn't hear the "Something In the Water. . ." scream (one of my favorite songs, BTW)--it sounded like a new scream to me!

there are songs on this album that disappoint but the title track Plant Earth is not one of them.i loved this one from very first listen. To put this album into perspective, imagine if Prince were performing this song at 5th Avenue on stage doin the movie purple rain and that should tell u what level this album is on.

The minute it's released live it will be a classic.

It's a song he will play with and probably never sound exactly the same twice.

Imagine holding Planet Earth
In the palm of your hand
With no regard for your place of birth
Or claim to any land

The only thing between us now is the truth we understand
If Planet Earth was in the palm of your hand

50 years from now what will they say about us here?
Did we care for the water and the fragile atmosphere?

There are only 2 kinds of folk
And the difference they make
The ones that give
And the ones that take

Just like the countless bodies
That revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one,
That caused it all to be
Then we'll see His kingdom come,
So shall it be written, so shall it be sung

Imagine you could rid the Earth
Of anyone you choose
Which ones would you need the most
And which ones would you lose?

Do we want to judge another
Lest we be judged too?
Careful now... The next one might be you

Just like the countless bodies
That revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one,
That caused it all to be
Then we'll see His kingdom come,
So shall it be written, so shall it be sung

Imagine sending your first born
Off to fight a war
With no good reason how it started and what they are fighting for
And if they're blessed to make it home
Will they still be poor?

Pray for peace right now and forever more

Just like the countless bodies
That revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one,
That caused it all to be
Then we'll see His kingdom come,
So shall it be written, so shall it be sung
(one more time)

Just like the countless bodies
That revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one,
That caused it all to be
Then we'll see His kingdom come,(see his kingdom come)
So shall it be written, so shall it be sung (shall it b sung)
so shall it, so shall it b sung!

Thank's a lot for the lyrics, they are fantastic like the whole song!
First I thought, when I saw the picture 'Prince looking at the earth', that
he got a little bit arrogant. But now I know that he is thinking and looking
at the beauty of our home and Prince feels this peace of mind, because he
knows that HE, the Creator, cares and will never allow the people to ruin
the earth. (REVELATION 18:11)
His kingdom will bring justice and I hope in 50 years from now, we will see
the earth in balance, that means peace, harmony and true knowledge all over!

I mean Revelation 11:18: '...and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.'

The Creator made it so beautifully and with love and HE will do something, before
human has destroyed it all. Think about it,if you are honest and spiritual:
That's the only solution!
Mother earth will live forever in peace and beauty!

I love where it's at. When was the last time he opened an album with a song like this? Ever? (Thinks) Nope, never. I think it was actually kind of brave to start with those stark, melancholy, dissonant piano chords. It's about the last thing you'd expect from a guy who opens pretty much all of his albums with uptempo danceable tracks like "I Wanna Be Your Lover," "1999," "Let's Go Crazy," "P Control," "Musicology," etc.

About the closest he's ever come to this for an opener is "Sign O The Times" - it, too, has a somber, downbeat tone, but it's still uptempo and danceable.

I just think it sets a unique mood for the album and like the gravity of "Sign O The Times" giving way to the levity of "Play In The Sunshine," it seems to me that "Planet Earth" dovetails nicely with "Guitar" for a lightening of mood.

Plus it's a great track, always good to start an album with a killer song.

I dunno if anyone else has mentioned this - can't be arsed to read the whole thread - but it sounds very Pink Floyd-y to my ears. With a touch of "Could It Be Magic" by Barry Manilow in the bridge. I really like it, one of the best on the album

Hey, has NOBODY mentioned the fact that the instrumental break in Planet Earth not only sounds like the melody of the original verses of "Could it be Magic" but also another song that uses this same melody (in part). It's the instrumental piano break in "Sailing" by Christopher Cross.
