THE PRINCE SHOW IS BACK! Saturday Night Live brings back THE PRINCE SHOW this evening.
THE PRINCE SHOW guest ... Toby McGuire, who proceeds to sit on a cupcake and holds a cherry. Next guest is Nancy Grace of CNN Headline News. Prince's side stuff includes deleting 200 text messages and he hides because Nancy Grace sings horribly U GOT THE LOOK. Prince then answers Nancy with a killer guitar solo with many flower petals falling. Fun stuff.

I loved his facial expression when he played the guitar

Good stuff, too.
I hate to say it, but I usually don't find the Prince Show skits to be very funny. I think the idea is good and has potential, but the jokes and dialog are usually lame. This one was actually pretty decent, though--especially the "Prince will answer your question through his guitar as pedals fall from the sky." That was a classic Prince imitation there, IMO. I did get to tape it, but missed the first minute of the segment since I did not have a tape ready.
Other than that, dig if you will, Fred Armisten in a cropped Prince-do, sort of like what Prince wore at the 2007 Grammys -- that pinkish-cream suit with the turquoise-green shirt. ... BEYONCE " ... and if you have any hard candy, unwrap it now." IT'S THE PRINCE SHOW, WITH CO-HOST BEYONCE KNOWLES. PRINCE: "Welcome to my show. My Spidey-sences are tingling. Please welcome from the new Spider-man movie. Mr. Toby McGuire." TOBY: "Is there mold in here? Because I totally have mold alergies." PRINCE whispers to BEYONCE. B: "Prince thinks there might be some mold growing up on these velvet curtins in here. We are having someone out here to take a look at it tomorrow." P: "Now Toby, I put this question to you. Have you ever spun a web so complex that you became entangled in the very web you wove?" T: "(clears throat) Does anybody have some Benedryl or are these down pillows or is there a cat in here? Because it's definitely more than mold. I'm definitely dealing with a duo- or a trio- of alergens right now." B: "Toby, Prince wants to show his Spider-man impression." Prince cups both of his hands in a cradled pose. T: "That's cool, that's cool. That's a nice Spidey technique. You know I did a lot of research watching all of these Nature Channel spider specials, and .... Hey? Where did Prince go? B: "Prince is deleting two months worth of text messages." T: "You know, Prince, Prince I just want to say I just love what you do and I wouldn't be here at 3 a.m. in the morning. But I have to say it is really damp in here and it's making me uncomfortable." PRINCE whispers to BEYONCE. B: "Prince wants you to go back there and sit in that giant cupcake." T: "Okay, okay, but just to warn you I can't have sugar or dairy, so it's gotta be quick. But, I'll do it. I"ll do it." B: "Prince wants you to stop whining, hop on that cupcake, and hold that cherry." P: "Some say that justice is blind. If it is it hasn't seen my next guest. Please welcome Nancy Grace." NANCY GRACE: "Wow, I can't believe I am here tonight. I'm so exhausted between Duke, Don and Dannilynn. But Prince, I grew up on your music. Back in the 80s me and my girlfriends, especially Julie, we used to go to a little club called Mardi Gras and they had free shrimp if you got there before six. You know I just want to let you know I used to jump around and sing that Sheena Easton song of yours, U GOT THE LOOK. You remember that song? U got the look, you've got my book, then you goobie-doobie-doobie my book! I don't know the words." B: "Nancy Grace, all your singing has scared Prince. He has decided to hide." Prince hides behind an oriental vase. NG: "Prince! Don't be scared! Aww, y'all I scared Prince. Now Prince, come on out and talk to Nancy Grace because I want to ask you a serious question. Do you believe this is the last time we'll ever hear from Howard K. Stern?" B: "Prince is going to answer your question through his guitar, as petals fall from the sky." T: "Ah, ah Prince, seriously I need a doctor. My hands are starting to swell! Can I get off this now?" P: "You can get off when we start getting down, and we are getting down right now!" Prince Show, everybody wants to be free. Prince Show, in the back of my limousine. Prince Show, come and take a ride with me. Join me under the waterfall and climb the rainbow tree! Is there anywhere you can watch some of the Prince Show episodes online? I can only find the Paula Abdul one. "The truth is that we don't even know what the world will be like until we shake things up a little bit"

Yes, Fred Armisten, a member of the NPG Music Club, which is now defunct, is a fan, just like us, of Prince. This Prince Show concept skit has been on every so often, since early 2004, after Prince performed with Beyonce at the Grammys. I believe, with last night's episode, there have been six Prince Shows. I could be wrong. Maybe five. [Edited 4/15/07 16:02pm]
