C.J.: Time to catch up with Mrs. Prince

There is still a Mrs. Nelson in Prince's life who's getting mileage out of what's left of that connection.

The New York Times did a "What I'm Wearing Now" feature on Manuela Testolini Nelson in January.

"Ms. Testolini Nelson, who is married to Prince," is how the item identified her. There was no mention of the Manuela-vs.-Prince divorce case in progress.

"I believe that the publicist said she did want to be referred to as Ms. Testolini Nelson," Trip Gabriel, Style editor at the NYT, told me Tuesday. "We knew they are separated. I believe this information came from her publicist."

On Dec. 11, Manuela petitioned the court in Hennepin County for an order to proceed with "discovery in the state of California." Her attorney said he was not allowed to interpret the docket's gobbledygook, but it appears that she's trying to get a handle on Prince's California assets.

Whatever the case, Manuela is not hiding under a bush while this matter works its way through court.

The NYT piece labels her "The Idealist" while publicizing Gamillah, a company she founded that "develops brands with a social conscience," and her charity for underprivileged children, "In a Perfect World Foundation." She's also working on a movie, which was presented at Sundance, titled "In a Perfect World ... Listen to the Children."

The Times said she spends her days "bouncing between business meetings, children's shelters and fundraisers."

Concluding the meaningful portion of the item, the NYT jumped into the shallow end. "I own at least 12 Gucci suits," Manuela told the newspaper, noting that she also likes the powerful yet feminine designs of Dolce & Gabbana and Stella McCartney. She also picked up two Miss Sixty puffy coats, one in black, the other in green.

She'll probably do well enough in the divorce to keep herself in couture and charitable work.

Big deal, she's got all those designer gowns. Never liked the lady since I first saw her at the Mill City festival, before I knew she was Prince's girlfriend. After reading this article, I know I was right about her, don't just dislike her, the lady makes me sick. She already has from Prince, more than she deserves.

Mani, why don't you leave the man alone. It's over. Get over it! He's not bothering you, he works like crazy, moving on with his life. Just do the same.

At least, when he's single he gets to work on his music, open and play in his new club, get closer with his fans, maybe he's preparing a tour... that's what we all want. So back off!

I think that this is a case of Prince really being in love with this chick and now she's capitalizing on it. Truly sad. I hope he never sticks his neck out like this again. She has always been a gold digger.

i wnder if that's why prince tore down his house in Minnesota: he didn't want Mani to get it. God, divorce is horrible.

I thought about the same thing too. But then, what happens to all his other properties?
Now, if she can only get it in Minnesota, that explains why he moved and performs in other states.

If this is true. Prince is definitely needs a group hug. Cause 4 years don't entitle nobody to half of a dang thing (the whole Cali thing). No kids either to carry on the legacy,aw shoot. Pre-nups are more than just a fashion statement.

not that i am defending Mani...but most of you damn well know if you had been married to Prince and was getting divorced, you'd be after it too! Dont even say not! lol

Especially when we don't even know why they are getting divorced. I can honestly say that hypothetically if I had been married to a millionaire and I found him rolling in the hay with other women, your damn right I would. Now, if our marriage ended simply because we grew out of love, didn't grow together, yada yada....then nah....fair is fair, I wouldn't take him to the cleaners.

Yes it does! No matter the reason, divorce is always emotional turmoil on both sides. Never easy.

If I understand it correctly Prince and Mani were not married in Cali. and if he has not made that one on his permanent residence it may be difficult for her to get anything there. I've heard the law there requires you to be married and reside there and then the spouse would get 1/2 of everything. Now that was the story when everyone was speculating on Vanessa Bryant leaving Kobe after that scandal. That brother better thank his lucky stars. Now I do believe if Prince did not have a iron clad pre-nup Mani could get 1/2 of what he made and what they aquired together during the 4 yr. marriage if it was 4 years. I hate to say it, but if she is only out for his money then I would strike back and strike hard. I would go after her company. You figure the name of her company came from Prince, the incense and candles Prince was doing maybe not to that magnitude but he was doing it first. She writing her own contracts etc. everything behind Mani spells Prince. I am not hating on her, but to me that is what it really looks like from here. Also, don't get me wrong she should get what she is entitled to but don't be greedy. That man has worked hard for what he has. Not saying that Mani hasn't earned anything. For his sake I hope he has some heavy hitters for lawyers.

Good point and I also agree that the premise of Mani's products came from Prince.

I dont know how 2 feel about her going after the Cali money b/c I really dont know what happened but Ill have 2 agree with the whole Prince behind Mani thing.I mean from what I can see she seems like a very intelligent woman and I think its nice what shes doing 4 the kids...BUT,the incense and candles...SO PRINCE...and the name "In a Perfect World..."...SO PRINCE,I mean I remember watching Prince's press release in NY 1999 and he even spoke about this game he and the people at Paisley Park would play called "In a perfect World..."...coinsidence...I think NOT.
