I hate it because it's shit hop sounding and it could fit in with anything else on the radio today.....which is a major insult in my book.

I've read this expression from U quite a bit. What exactly does it mean, or is it just the "Vainandy Musical Insult" of choice? confused

In the early 1980s, there was hip hop and it was good. In the 1990s, hip hop slowed down the tempo, stripped all the instruments off, and just remained a slow weak cheap sounding drum machine (sounding like a little $20 Casio keyboard), maybe a sample over it, and some "talking". It went from being "hip hop" to "shit hop".

Shit hop isn't just limited to rap either. The majority of the R&B singers started using that same weak sounding drum machine and never got past midtempo either. Shit hop is an actual sound. In other words, it's mainstream R&B for the last 15 years. R&B still exists though, except now it means "Rhythmless Bullshit".

3121 is my fave "recent" Prince album. To be honest, right now I'm wearing a purple shirt with "Prince 3121" written on it. (I swear to God!)

You should never judge Prince's work on anyone else's opinions, don't you trust your own judgement?

"Lolita" and "Love" are some of the best tracks he has made in years. I could put my foot up his ass for making a rediculous sellout song like "Incense and Candles" but, other than that, the album is pretty good.

That's probably because a lot of his fans aren't used to Prince doing an album that had more of an r&b/soul, gospel/spiritual,latin, blues, pop sound, with the exception of "Fury" which was definitely rock. I think many Prince fans want him to stay on the "rock" level, which he does well, but is not and never was limited to. On 3121 he covered quite a few genres of music, a little something for everyone.
[Edited 2/28/07 8:50am]

R&B on this album doesn't sit well with me because it's below par 4 Prince! He didn't really put his own spin on it. 2 me it sounded like much of the other mass produced R&B crap put out. Maybe because Tamar doin the vocals as well so it may as well B Destinies Child with Prince standing in 4 Beyonce. confused
But that's only MY opinion. cool

BINGO! Again!! But U gotta appeal 2 the mindless mass! Can't make lyrics 2 complicated or meaningfull. Or music 2 melodious and mind altering. It hurts their pea brains!
This is why Prince is struggling nowadays. It's us Old Timers keepin him afloat. He's not repetative or stupid sounding enough 4 the kids. Though he tried on 3121! cool

Yeah, I don't get it... but I respect people's opinions if they don't like it. But I like this cd because I like different music.. R&B, rock, soft rock, etc... I like the fact that he can do completely different cds and still have something for such a wide range of fans... I don't care when you become a fan of Prince, lots of people experience his cds way after their original releases... good music is good music & I LOVE Incense & Candles on this cd. smile

Hello All once again before I start this remmeber this is just my opinion and is meant towards no one.....but with that said allow me to reply to this topic.....

3121 is a great release and so have been the rest of the ones before it and I am sure the ones that will come after it.....the problem is that some people who call themselves "fans" of princes music cannot respect 3121 for what it is.....most people are still waiting for the next "Purple Rain" anmd let me say it now from a music stand point there will never be another "Purple Rain".....that is a release that comes once in a lifetime.....but if you truly love music.....take 3121 and the rest of his releases for that matter and don't just hear the music listen to them.....and after doing so if you still cannot appreciate 3121 for what it is there is an issue or perhaps you just weren't a true "fan" of his music but more of a well I like this and I like that.....because like I have said before in IMHO 3121 is one of the best releases we have been lucky to have heard from him.....the lyrics are prince lyrics to the core....it has every elemant that made him who he was and still is today.....and lets not even mention the asounding guitar work on this release.....ooops I guess I just mentioned it LOL.....

In closing I would just like to say I have been a Prince "Fam" for a long long time so I will be very opinionated here on this forum.....I hope I don't offend anyone but if I do by some chance.....just remember my opinions aren't meant to hurt anyone just my opinions

Peace and Be WILD!!!!!

I agree with this too!

Lolita is not my fave, although after you hear it only once, the beat stays in your head. I LOVE I&C. I think someone said it was because of the sexual mood it puts you in. Amen to that. "Love" is another favorite.

I like the music on The Word, and Get on the Boat, but the words turn me off. They probably wouldn't if I hadn't been a JW for so long, but the words are written like they came straight from the Watchtower. disbelief Although they sound beautiful, I have too much baggage to listen to them with an objective ear.

3121 is alright.

My main problem with it is that for the first time in a long time, there isn't a single track that I'd consider a standout. It feels like the new millenium version of D&P, safe and consistently listenable, but ultimately nothing to shout about - But at least D&P had a couple of killer singles in its arsenal.

And the JW stuff is getting really tiresome - The Word sounds so cool musically, but Prince's lyrics turn me off bigtime. No, goddamnit, I don't wanna go get saved.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...
