one word: masterpiece ( or "beautiful"), it was a bad idea imo to release it on the 3rd record of the hits/ the b-sides.

I'm getting married 2day!!!!

2day I'm getting married 08.11.06 @6pm ... I think that it's wonderful that I couldn't decide on one Prince track to be played at our reception. If I had one, I had twenty five. I did supply our DJ with a secert stash of Prince Music just incase our guest... my friends, began to make some special request. I did inclue the song Power Fantastic as the last tack on the CD that we giving out as part as our wedding favor bag. I've always loved that song I would have to say that it's my all time favorite... Power Fantastic I know that It's not really about love for another person per say, but it's so spiritually touching and it capture that emotion I feel toward my beautful wife to be. I'm not trying to be sappy but it powerful & wonderful fantastic song... I thank Prince for sharing such a beautiful moment with us.

Ooooohhh! touched That is sweetest thing I've heard (well...read) all day! Belated Congratulations. The 11th is a good day for marriage. My anniversary is
7-11. biggrin

I thought that I read somewhere that Wendy and Lisa threated to sue Prince because when he originally released the The Hits/The B-sides he failed to give them a writing credit for Power Fantastic. Then when the album was reissued, he gave them credit that they wanted.

Anyway that song is so wonderful.

According to the liner notes in The Hits/The B-sides, Lisa is not on the recording. Someone else is playing the piano

Yeah, let's trust the album that pretends W&L didn't write this song.

DMSR by Per Nilsen states that first "The [studio recordings] information has been pieced together from several sources, including studio work orders, showing when different songs were recorded and worked on, recording session diaries kept by some band members and engineers, Paisley Park tape library lists, and other official documentation."

[...]

Power Fantastic was recorded on March 19th of that year, and was based on a piano piece by Lisa Coleman entitled "Carousel". This song along w/ "And How" were also recorded in the home studio, with "Power Fantastic" featuring the line-up of Prince, Wendy (Bass), Lisa (piano), Bobby Z. (drums), Eric Leeds (flute) and Matt Blistan (trumpet).

In a radio interview I have with Eric Leeds, he said he, Altanta Bliss,
Lisa, and Prince did that in one take. Eric/Altanta on horns, Lisa was
upstairs on the grand piano(the rest of the band saw her on a monitor),
Prince on whatever. I believe this song was cut in Prince's home at the
time, seein how Paisley wasn't built yet. Great story behind that song.

Nice information but I always thought that Power Fantastic was Lisa's song just like The Stick off of the Time's first LP which happened to included Prince and the band's input. I read somewhere that Lisa had to hid some of her material from Prince because she feared that he would just take her ideas and not creating her for it. Sometimes people forget that Wendy and Lisa are two different people who can also create wonderful music solo too.

There's nothing I don't like about Power Fantastic. It's at once soooo sexy, but the lyrics suggest any sort of carnal energy is tempered by a real transcendent, liberating presence. Who wouldn't want or need that kind of love.. and who wouldn't be a little afraid of it -- as it's so rare!?! The orchestration is perfectly dreamy, and the way Prince's high note in the refrain reaches an octive higher with each pass builds an awesome climax.

Good stuff. thumbs up!

I don't like the fact Prince edited over a minute of audio from the start of the track, the so called "Paris" or "Power Fantastic Intro".

Yes that song is sublime. I usually just kick back with a glass of wine and enjoy it with my windows open and let a nice summer breeze in. I can't wait til summer comes.
