Power Fantastic! So Is it?

I think it's fantastic! One of Prince's finest songs! To me...it's absolutely beautiful in it's simplicity! How about you?

You're a liar...if you say this isn't nice! wink

Power Fantastic is haunting, emotional, mysterious, soulful, jazzy and ethereal. Only Condition of the Heart surpasses it as my favorite Prince ballad.

I've always thought that song is over-rated... Which is odd cause i love almost everything Prince does. But this ond to me seems to get move credit then i would give it. Still a good song though.

What sold it for me was the fact it was recorded in one take

Me too. That's pretty impressive.

Prince sometimes fiddles around with his tracks too much. I love that this one was left pretty much as is, with only minor tweaking.

Baloney. Don't you hear the PIANO on the recording? Hell, W&L basically WROTE the song (and of course aren't credited).

http://www.everything2.co...id=1430129

Originally intended for the aborted Dream Factory project, this amazing song was apparently based on an instrumental track by Wendy and Lisa, Carousel. Prince immediately wrote this song after hearing it, and it's interesting for many different reasons: it was never officially released until 1993 on Prince - The Hits/The B-Sides; thus was one of his most-bootlegged songs, and is one of the few tracks where Prince uses the 3/4 time signature.

[...]

Recorded in just one take with the piano on another floor in Prince's shiny new house, the version officially released on said compilation does not include the one-odd minute of jazzy intro that Prince suggested just as the tape started to roll... but the bootlegs do. Piano led and breathy falsetto fantastic, this is a song you really have to hear, Prince appreciator or not.

yeah, it has one of the greatest melodies he ever wrote. I even like the version on the Blue Note Plays Prince compilation.
Just a beautiful melody!

According to the liner notes in The Hits/The B-sides, Lisa is not on the recording. Someone else is playing the piano

It is a really great song. I really do not know where I could rank Power Fantastic. I know that it would be in my top ten songs from Prince.

This is a standout track for me, across all the artists I love - Prince created a great melody, and I wish he'd done more songs like it during this very avant-garde, experimental era. It's a song with an atmosphere all it's own.

Nope!
I kept playing it over and over when I was engaged so that my [then] fiance would be familiar with it when we had our 1st dance- I killed it! lol
THEN we broke up, and I would play it and cry to it. bawl
I have a weird relationship with that song, but I love it mushy

that's how i feel about it. i like it - quite a bit, actually - but i've never LOVED this song. when people heap tons of praise on it, i often wonder if i'm thinking of the same song they're talking about. lol

on 08.11.06 I wrote...
I'm getting married 2day!!!!

2day I'm getting married 08.11.06 @6pm ... I think that it's wonderful that I couldn't decide on one Prince track to be played at our reception. If I had one, I had twenty five. I did supply our DJ with a secert stash of Prince Music just incase our guest... my friends, began to make some special request. I did inclue the song Power Fantastic as the last tack on the CD that we giving out as part as our wedding favor bag. I've always loved that song I would have to say that it's my all time favorite... Power Fantastic I know that It's not really about love for another person per say, but it's so spiritually touching and it capture that emotion I feel toward my beautful wife to be. I'm not trying to be sappy but it powerful & wonderful fantastic song... I thank Prince for sharing such a beautiful moment with us.
THINKTIMM... if nothing else!!!
