It's a shame 3121 didn't get a bit more of a boost, and no doubt it would have if he'd only played a track from it. confused

I dont think so, since the crowd of a superbowl is unfamiliar with anything Prince outside of the Purple Rain "era". 3121 would benefit from a grammy win or performance though.

That doesn't really follow logic, at one time the crowd wasn't familiar with PR material, either, until they were introduced to it. Plus, as we see from the Amazon numbers more than just the PR album received a boost. If Prince had played a track from 3121 then the people who are buying those other albums might have been more likely to look at that album if they liked the track he played.

i feel that sales do indeed come from his love for music. don't 4get what Prince said, more-or-less, "when we all realize that music is a gift from God and that all music comes from God, then we will be in the Golden Age."

Prince, in my opinion, would be playing music, whether he received or did not receive monetary compensation from it. the money just comes as it is the nrg transferred in this day and age for folks "buying" the music. Give everything to God. See God in everything. Prince just happens to have more than a million dollars in the bank for sharing the gift of music.

Remember that the only bank that really matters is the bank of Karma. God keeps count of everything through us.

[b][i] i think some people think our man was "selling out" by appearing at the super bowl and in some of the other arenas in which he chose to appear....i choose to believe that he realized that by reminding some of his former fans and introducing himself to some newer ones, all would be reminded of his talent and greatness, and seek out the new work which we all know and love....this can only be a good thing for all of us who love prince and his music in all of its incarnations....i felt so proud of his performance, and i was thrilled when my date for the evening (a 45-year old man) asked if i had "purple rain" in my library, as he had never seen the film....i gave him the sarcastic glare to indicate "of course i have "purple rain", you troll, i am a prince fanatic"....so we watched the film, and i saw him see the light, and now he is interested in listening to my entire library of prince cds and dvds.....and this is what i hoped for....a whole new gang of rainbow children sprouting up from the superbowl purple rain.....god bless you, prince!! you own my heart and mind....i truly adore u!!!! biggrin

hmmmm..so much to say..but i'll stay quiet on this one. wink

I know you were serious. I was sarcastic. Because according to npgmc you should be happy for WB NOT prince because they rake in the big profits on the cd sales that went up so much. And they didn't even have to a damn thing for it. Prince is doing all the work.

Sure, let's hope he does well at the granny's, but sh@t... whatever happened to BEEN THERE, DONE THAT and LETS TRY SOMETHING NEW?

Prince's rain-drenched halftime performance at the Super Bowl Sunday night set his album sales sprouting like Jack's beanstalk, Amazon.com reports.

The halftime show, which in recent years has helped the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and even the malfunctioning Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson to mighty sales increases, was a profitable stage for Prince.

"The Very Best of Prince'' shot from No. 710 to No. 71 on Amazon.com's Top Sellers list for music, according to Amazon.

Sales of "The Hits/The B-Sides'' increased by a super 887 percent, climbing from No. 2,211 all the way to No. 224 among Amazon.com's top sellers.

Prince's finale, "Purple Rain'' propelled sales of the album "Music From the Motion Picture `Purple Rain' '' from No. 432 to No. 53 on the Amazon list, a leap of 715 percent.

"Ultimate Prince'' rose from No. 516 to No. 82 and "3121" climbed from No. 488 to No. 145 in sales on Amazon.

Overall, Prince's average album sales on Amazon went up 653 percent.

yeah, met some1 in San Jose at the airport who told me he went to Amazon.com and bought the best hits of Prince. All the folks that are buying this music that i have encountered are talking so positively about Prince's per4mance. it's been fun to ask folks this week past if they saw Prince at the Superbowl and 2 listen to their response.

Wow, Warner Bros are really raking it in! Maybe he should have done If eye was the Man in ur life, followed by the Plan, followed by the One, and Until U're in my Arms Again. Then he could have increased his post-warner sales by 700% and made a lot more money himself!
Maybe not.

Pleas enote that ALL of these albums are WB-era releases. Thanks to a combination of cluelessness (on the part of Prince) and lack of decent material, nobody bought any of the recent stuff (insofar it's actually available).

Bart you're like a Bus![would the Americans actually get that comment?!]. Don't you think doing the P. Rain stuff was a clear decision on his part [does it point to a remaster heading our way?]. Yes it does beggar belief that 3121 isn't on ITUNES but i'm sure if it was he could have don't Fury and got some sales. Also does it not make perfect sense to give the Public and masses what they know and want. Doing a TV spot in front of 93m Americans is probably NOT the place to wheel out the Jazzy stuff or start preaching about 'The Christ'.

I don't know why it would.. he frequently pulls these old tunes out of the closet.

What it does is; make it look like he hasn't done anything of note since the 80's. There's plenty of newer tracks he could 'wheel out' without having to resort to 'Jazzy stuff or start preaching about 'The Christ'. Heck, if he wanted to stick to radio hits, even just pulling out an early 90's track like Cream, Diamonds & Pearls or 7 (which might have fit the anti-war message some thought he was subtly trying to give) would have reminded people he's done more than just PR.

Keep dreaming. Why do fans like you make up crap to justify this nonsense?

He's been doing this lame greatest hits crap for MORE THAN A DECADE, a decade in which he's bitched about WB making money, a decade in which he's cancelled a tour because he realised WB were once again gonna rake in money because doodoohead was so confident about his new songs that he was gonna do another greatest hits tour.

Prince should NEVER do that crap in the first place. ("Spirituality" instead of "Sexuality"? Goddammit stop spoiling those great songs! Don't like the message of "Sexuality"? DON'T FRAKKING PLAY IT.)

Wanna know why he didn't play any new music? Because he knows damn well that nobody cares about it, and that it just doesn't measure up.

meaning that i thought and still do think something involving the Revolution will kick in this year, if so focussing on the most popular Revolution album would make perfect commercial sense.

could argue that it's his music so can do what he wants he with it. Take your point though.

that may well be the case BUT you cannot argue that in this case on one of the biggest stages he got the mix right and gave them what they wanted. This in turn has led ,on the whole, to major praise from most quarters. I think that we, are sometimes way too hard on the guy. He's in a comfort zone, probably finds making music too easy and is enjoying playing live more than creating something new. Don't you think that some of the 3121 CD was a step back in the right direction i.e. the dance, word & 3121?.

I really think that you are speaking for yourself on this one, there were enough grooving around the world on the ONA tour, he sold a million [excluding the ticket giveaways for the Musicology CD, and above all else how can he or any other artist [singer , actor, painter etc] top a peak period of creativity. At his age and given the volume of work he has done i think it's pretty amazing that he is , without doubt back in a big way at least in the US. There are very few artists who careers have had another chance of success like this and he seems to have a great deal of gravitas in the entertainment field. STOP BEING SO HARD ON HIM!.

Bullshit.

Wanna know which artist takes far more risks? MADONNA. Latest tour focused almost entirely on her NEW ALBUM, with only a handful of reworked hits inbetween. That used to be Prince's game, but he lost that long ago when dollar signs were all he started to care about. And thus he now "hosts" a club in Vegas where he can command ridiculous prices, for doing pale imitations of what he used to do at the Park for next to nothing a decade ago.

Prince is back? In what universe? Like he was back after the rrhof show? Like after the Grammy show with Beyonce? Etcetera. This will go NOWHERE.

Bwahahahaha. Prince is bored shitless. LISTEN to what he plays and how he plays it: quick verse and chorus, and than on to the interminable guitar solo or the "look at me I'm playing jazz baloney".

Sheesh, don't you guys LISTEN to a CD? 3121 is exactly the same shit he's been doing for a decade: pale imitations of himself. Prince had given up on 3121 before it was even released. Rmember when Prince used to have hits, when he used to tour an album, when he was RELEVANT?
