I doubt also. A great as Prince is, Michael has always been more popular around the world

There are 2 many factors UNRELATED 2 the actual performance 2 compare. In 1990, people did NOT have the entertainment options that they do now, Tivo, Direct TV, the Internet, X-box, etc.....just way 2 many factors 2 compare.

That said, I KNOW u will try anyway.

Can't forget the confetti dropping during LGC biggrin

I really hope that the preachy moments are kept to a minimum (my preference)

...and to answer an earlier poster, P "can't" (in relation to his ability to move) as fluidly as he once did, but that is just my opinion (I last saw him in 2000 or 01 April/Atlanta/Hit N Run Tour)

When I first saw this I thought Michael Jordan has retired and he played basketball biggrin But why wouldn't Prince top dude. He will drop the jaws of all those football fans in the halftime show with a combination of funk, rock and soul. I cannot wait til the game cause I will watch this one over and over.

I don't think that Prince can match MJ's superbowl draw--I watched it in '93 with my folks as a kid--and I don't know. Michael was pulling all the stops. Fondling his balls--which I like--moonwalking, the whole deal. Alot of the stuff that makes Prince scandalous, he doesn't do anymore. And then the censors are still up in arms after Janet's "nipplegate scandal". I dunno, it's a shot in the dark. I know it'll be a good show, but MJ magnitude? (I don't think MJ can match MJ's magnatude. Though I'd be in the front row screaming like a bitch for either him or P.)

Bottom line, Prince will do good.
MJ good? I dunno.

Prince is about music, not low level tactics. Anyone can do what MJ did but no one can make music like Prince does. America will rock when they hear real music. yes

hey if prince can wear 8 inch heels, of COURSE capri pants are fair game. i think he knows he can't rock his "butt out jeans" tho. lest the FCC lose their minds. they'll definitely INSPECT his 'drobe BEFORE the show.

Prince is da man, but he won't outdo Mike even with all the "differences" factoring in from the 90s on viewing habits etc. Dallas is an extremely popular theme, but what made MJ's performance so memorable to me is his ENTRANCE. that was captivating and unexpected, the melo drama of it all, removing his glasses... but THEN the audience participating with the signs in Heal the World, he MADE everyone pay attention because he INVOLVED them.

as much as i don't want him to, he'll open with LGC, it's his most popular "opening line" ever but from there i hope he surprises and funks us all up.

Octavius

I'm with whoever said that Prince should leave the "go go go, go go go" in the dressing room. It's downright embarrassing as a fan to see/hear him do that shit.

I just want a raw, guitar-heavy, in-your-face rocked out performance. No costume-clad troupe of dancers, no pyrotechnics. Just the man and his band up there on stage with the lights on, the guitar turned way up, and the twins' mics turned way down. Period.

Bring it:

My desired setlist:

Extra Lovable (wicked guitar, polished lyrics, available on iTunes after)
Lolita
Erotic City (clarify to the organizers that he's saying "funk"...ah-hem....)
Fury (akin to the SNL performance; tear that guitar up, boy)
Let's Go Crazy (again, stop with the "go, go, go"); a sing-a-long friendly must

If people want to hear Purple Rain, let 'em watch the movie.

The Superbowl breaks down into 4 major categories of viewers.
True NFL fans
Casual sports Fans
People whom want 2 see the commercials
And people whom do ANTHING that everyone else does

When Prince completes his PERFORMANCE on Superbowl Sunday,
75% of the above mentioned group will spend more time talking about Prince than the GAME.

Take that 2 the BANK.

Michael Jackson's 90's superbowl performance pulled the largest TV audience ever. Do you think Prince, what with all the high profile stuff he's been doing lately, has the potential to top that?

Nah, definitely not. It'll pull in a good rating, but nothing like MJ levels.

Prince has his own style unlike MJ,He's a soloist with his own music,MJ mostly have people write his,so weather he get the largest audience or not, also cosidering his 2010 second nomination into the music hall of Fame somthing not even MJ been elected for, that makes him king of music period.

Plato started our educational system based on evolution.Evolution is an attempt to explain Creation without a Great divine Creator. The Bible which our educational system has rejected, which is the foundation of all knowlegde has been ignored.Plato also taught the immotality of the soul. They say when you die you go to heaven or hell, that not true because in Icorinthians 15 if you read the chapter you will see that it is only by a Ressurection,we are brought back to be judged first and then Christ will give his Gift of Eternal life or death to those who done bad.The wages of sin is death,NOT BURNING IN HELL FIRE FOREVER Romans 6;23 in other words you dont burn forever you just burn up and cease to exist.Thats the plain TRUTH of your Bible.Love God

P, despite a recent renaissance, in mainstream America's eyes, is something of an unknown commodity despite being one of the most omnipresent musicians of the last 25 or so years.

Performance wise, P will get the people talking if he covers songs that the mainstream knows (Kiss, LGC, Purple Rain). If he goes into stuff from his 90's works(that didn't resonate with the masses), he will lose his audience.

Give the masses what they want, especially with an audience over a quarter billion people.

What are you, high? "Unknown commodity?" What planet have you been living on? Planet Neverland? chainsaw
