one of the lowest moment by prince...

i saw prince on rosie o'donell show years back when he sang holy river on the show.
Prince was interviewed by Rosie and it was the most condescending interview i've seen.
Rosie told prince "you are pretty" instead of saying you are handsome or sexy, etc. i was like what the fu*k was that??
Prince was so embarassed that he was at a loss for words and did not know how to respond to that. I was upset by how Rosie conducted that interview. Rosie interviewed prince as if she was interviewing a little girl on the show. very disrectful.

try to find that interview somewhere and see for yourself.
no wonder the man does not give many interviews.

In fact it was due 2 this that he almost walked out(although he playfully acted it out)!!

This is without a doubt one of his worse TV moments!!nod

Damn that Rosie! I mean, it's not like that playful moment when Prince responded to a compliment from a fan about Emancipation with, "Am I supposed to care?"

I found that interview hilarious. Rosie was making fun of him, he was acting offended...

High comedy.

He was never going to walk off while he had an album to promote.
i felt it was a strange time for him.
the death of his baby and he chose to keep promoting.
It never ever really added up to me.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Yeah, that bitch almost got walked out on..."taffy"

Prince: You know what rhymes with "taffy" don't you?

Rosie: Laffy? Caffy? no what?

Prince: It rhymes with "good night"

Rosie: Oh....OH....I won't call you that anymore

Bitch

For those of you who don't get it...Prince was telling her in no
uncertain terms to stop calling him that and call him by his
name or he was leaving on the spot.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

You didn't have to spell it out for me cause that's the way I heard it, and Rosie did too, cause you see she quit call him that silly shit after he said that.

She said "You're very cute," and he covered his face then said, "No, I don't want to be cute."

It was Scary who called him that.

But that was only because,
for the briefest of moments,
Prince was gonna be Ginger Spice's replacement in the 'group',
with the affectionate title of "Pretty Spice".

Yeah I didn't think she said pretty,. she said cute. He covered his face said he didn't want to be cute. Seemed to me that right after that he was in a little bit of a hissy mood for rest of the interview.

And I thought the taffy comment was funny. She was using it as a term of endearment. He was taking himself way too seriously, I thought. She was just being funny. She's a comedian. Or at least she was at the time.

I remember watching that interview and thinking "wow, he's not being very nice. she's only kidding."
I've seen people say other stuff to him in a humourous or teasing way and he didn't mind. When Oprah said that the decor at Paisley Park was "just like your mind" he didn't get mad at that. He said he'd take that as a compliment.

Yes, I saw that and I do think the name took Prince by surprise, I'm sure he has been called worst names then that. Rosie definetly did not mean any harm and he was aware of that.

I don't think that was her intention originally. She kinda did get sarcastic after he took her taffy comment badly. That's when she was pointing to the symbol on the cover of the CD. I thought that was funny. I think he was done with Rosie at that point.
And later, I can't remember what interview it was. But it was very shortly after he did Rosie's show, he did another interview when he had a very small rant about people not taking the name change seriously and making up names for him. He was pretty touchy about that. I think he is too sensitive.

He was very misunderstood about his name change and it was a highly charged situation with warner. He was hung out to dry by the british press at every and any opportunity, not to mention the press in other parts of the world. i'm not surprised he lost his rag at times, in fact it's a miracle he didn't more often. i like his sensitivity and vulnerability. makes him an admirable man!

I thought this thread was going to be about the cease & desist sent to HQ about the photoshopped Prince/Elvis pic...

But since it's not I will add: he did write a song about himself entitled "Pretty Man"...

and I'm very particular about my name, too. It's Joni, not Joan, and I do not let people shorten it to Joan, I hate being called Joan; so I can only imagine how annoyed prince would get with all the stupid nicknames people came up with.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

The name change was misunderstood because, in my opinion, is was misleading. At the time of the name change Prince appeared to be going to a horrendous time artically with WBros and appeared to have his career stifled by their reluctance to load the market with P product... The name change was portrayed as a spiritual thang, when in actual fact - as we now know, because he told us so - it was contractual thing and a monetary thing. The name change went from being interesting, to confusing, to embarrassing, to feeling down-right lied to.

But that's just my opinion.

I love the Rosie interview, I think Prince stopped the comments quite well... if only Americans understood geography he could have claimed some Welsh heritage.... that would have been 'lush' and/or 'tidy'.

Well, I never saw that interview, but even though she is a comedian, there are some limits and she went overboard if she even called him "Taffy"!
What the hell?!?!?!
A name is such a personal thing. You don't want peolpe to get THAT personal and call you stupid names.
Specially not "TAFFY"!
I love his comment back to her though!
Way to go Prince.

Also, you gotta remember, he doesn't often give interviews, so when he eventually does, I guess he expects the interviewere to be kind of civil.
Don't think he lacks a sense of humor at all, the man can be hilarious, but her comments were too personal.

You would have to see it. She was showing him how to play with a toy. A child's toy. A koosh ball to be exact. Occasionally on her show, she would shoot them out to the audience. He wanted to try it, she gave him the koosh. He tried to shoot it and it didn't work. When she was instructing him how to fire the ball, she called him "taffy". She didn't just call him that out of nowhere. She was being playful. He put the toy down and asked her what "taffy' rhymed with...etc etc.
Now keep in mind his attitude was a little icky before she even said it. It started when she said he was cute and he goes "i don't wanna be cute." He was being kind of a jerk from the get go. And Rosie just wanted him to lighten up.
(look at me defending rosie o'donnell, i hate her! lol)
I just think that Prince was so accustomed to people kissing his ass and fawning over him that it threw him that she was treating him the same as she would any other guest on her show. She wasn't acting all ga-ga like Jay Leno (which is why Prince likes him so much, cuz he kisses his ass hard) Don't get me wrong, I like people that treat me special too but damn.

Oh for fuck's sake. Prince IS pretty. Not handsome. Pretty.

And sexy is a matter of personal taste. Rosie doesn't swing that way. Why in God's name would she say he's sexy?
