Prince's most religious song?

Excluding JW songs (so that excludes the entire RAINBOW CHILDREN album).

"Thunder" strikes me as very religious.

I would call "Still Would Stand All Time" the most passionate spiritual song. The word "religious" can be interpreted in a few ways.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Word...people are so funny...but you are always on point

I Would Die 4 U is the most religious song P has ever done. Even more so than the Cross

The song is so good and so addictive that people that aren't religious completely miss the story. That has always been hilarious too me

I'm not sure how a 'religious' song is more or less religious than another religious song. Percentage of lyrics that use religious words? Is Pope Catholic?

I completely agree about I Would Die 4 U...if you read the lyrics and imagine
Jesus himself speaking these very lines...chills up yo spine.
It speaks of forgiving the sinners if they believe...
This song does get lost as a spiritual song because of it's catchiness and the fact that, in the context of the movie, it's a tribute song to his father, with no hint that it actually means much more...just listen to the words.

I Would Die 4 U

I'm not a woman
I'm not a man
I am something that U'll never understand
I'll never beat U
I'll never lie
And if U're evil I'll forgive U by and by

CHORUS:
Cuz U - I would die 4 U, yeah
Darlin', if U want me 2
U - I would die 4 U

I'm not your lover
I'm not your friend
I am something that U'll never comprehend
No need 2 worry
No need 2 cry
I'm your messiah and U're the reason why

CHORUS

U're just a sinner I am told
Be your fire when U're cold
Make U happy when U're sad
Make U good when U are bad
I'm not a human, I am a dove
I'm your conscience, I am love
All I really need is 2 know that U believe (Yeah)

I would die 4 U, yeah
Darlin', if U want me 2
U - I would die 4 U

Yeah, say it one more time

U - I would die 4 U (U)
Darlin', if U want me 2
U - I would die 4 U
2 3 4 U

I would die 4 U {x2}
U - I would die 4 U {x2}

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

The crap on 'The Rainbow Children' that is downright dogmatic religious...

Princes' lyrics about the 'devine' were way better when he keeped it on a more open, spiritual level. At least you had the opportunity to connect those lyrics to your own spiritual idea's.

On The Rainbow Children and also on some songs on 3121, the religious lyrics irritate me a lot, showing a Prince who sounds dogmatic, limitating himselve and his muse, a painfull example of a person misunderstanding 'scriptures' with feelings and intuition.

But the wonderful thing about I Would Die 4 U is that it doesn't alienate anyone, because its lyrics have that ambiguous quality. Yeah, the song is about Jesus, but because it isn't so explict in its message, you don't have to strain yourself to relate to it on a simply personal level.

Something like the TRC title track though, goddamn...
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."
