I plan to do one of these for Carmen! In the future, when I will be on my Neil Young phase!

this is my least favorite prince album of all time. words are inadequate to convey how much i dislike it. barf

So ... you don't like it?

hmm, let me think about it. hmmm yeah. pretty much hate all of it. lol.

I do like White Mansion, Somebody's Somebody, and Face Down; but disc 2 is absolutely unbearable. When an Emancipation song comes on the all Prince station on xm radio I rush to switch it to old skool hip hop! smile
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Okay, I have a question about La La La Means eye Love You. Is that Prince's voice? It sounds so beautiful, and the cover says additional vox by Chante Moore. I don't hear anyone's voice but Prince's.

I think I hear a woman on the "La La La" part, particularly at the end

Good album. It takes a long time to properly absorb, but there's plenty of good material on there. There's some stuff I could do without, but that's par for the course with 3 discs worth of material.

Still, there are some true gems here:

Sex in the Summer
Soul Sanctuary
Dreamin' About U
Joint 2 Joint
The Love We Make

J2J in particular is a standout track - the boy found a great feeling on that song.

I agree...Good, but not great...But I think it is some of his best material of the '90s...There are some exceptional moments (Curious Child, Dreamin About U, The Love We Make, Joint 2 Joint (should have been cut to 4 minutes...); "Holy River," "In This Bed I Scream," and some fun tracks "Mr. Happy" (check you brain at the door..the groove is funky..); "White Mansion," ect...Overall a strong project, but would have been better as two disc...

Emancipation was based on the pyramids. One aspect of that is that the pyramids, while amazing achievements, are kinda boring on the surface. It takes a little investigation to understand what went into their creation.

It's also why it had to be 3 cd's

I agree with Murph, definitely better as a two disc set. I think this was around the time he wanted to prove he could put out a 3 disc box set to spite WB. I have felt for Sex in the Summer, Face Down, JOTY, and White Mansion. What about Style ya'll definitely classic Prince. Style is not putting out a 3 CD set just because you can, Style is doing Vegas your own way biggrin

Was thinking about this album today, and can't believe that it's ten years old!

So, you think most of those vocals are Prince? It's hard for me to believe. I've never heard him sound like that before.

Did you see the Face Down appearance he did on the Chris Rock show? I saw a completely different side of Prince there.
