Some like it. I wasn't so impressed by it though.

the same feeling/attitude seems to have bled from Get Wild into this song. Rock N Roll is Alive was a track quickly thrown together by P to show Lenny the error of his ways

Rock And Roll Is Alive evolved out of an extended jam on Get Wild.

In my opinion one of his best songs.
It differs in pleasant way from the widespread monotonous pop trash.
Rain is wet and sugar is sweet.

It didn't impress me very much. Typical throw away Prince track.

I found it a particularly impressive throw-down from Prince an' the band. I can see why it didn't make the album, but I love it.

Rudy

wasn't it a response to Lenny's 'Rock n Roll Is Dead'?

Lately I've been "discovering" that song after hearing it all these years - the guitars are so badass! Why didn't I ever pay attention before?

What's not to like about it. It's an uplifting song with a bravado twist. It's a fun song and isn't a response to the song by lenny kravitz Rock and rock is dead?

yes, lenny had "rock and roll is dead". Prince responded to this AND the rock and roll hall of fame being in ohio!

Snap

if i remember right, one night Prince had the L4OA crowd chanting the chorus
and within two months, the song popped up as the b-side to "Gold"
there was a message on Prince's website in response to Lenny's hit at the time
something like, "Lenny's got it wrong -- Rock N Roll's alive and it lives in MPLS"
the song could've never been considered for inclusion on Gold
because it was written almost 2 years after Gold had been assembled
and almost a year after it had been released

LOVE this song! I actually heard it on the radio here in Chicago on WXRT a few times when the Gold single was released way back when. Raw and rockin.
