make of it what u will...but Prince was asked that self-same question at the Oakland sound-check, some years back.

he folded his hands, got misty eyed, looked right at the person who asked, and said, "Christ".

u could've heard a pin drop, n that vast arena of seats, with only about 30-40 of us n there, sitting right n front of him, or rather he sat on a speaker n front of us.
NOBODY else asked him any-more 'who' nfluences ur music type ?uestions!
lol
'YEAHHHH!!!!' we gonna pitch!!! a whang-dang-doodle, ALL NITE LONG!!!!!

Prince styled himself on rick james in the early days.

His first album was inspired by andre; it had his bass sound all over it.

Obviously sly, james brown and guitar wise; santana and dez dickerson!

One of the people Prince truely looks up to is Jimmi Hendix. If you look back to Prince's style of dress back in the 1999/Purple Rain era it's pure Jimmi Hendrix!

I can't speak for the other person but I was referring to who his overall influences were.

Prince was heavily influenced by Sly Stone and Timbaland...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

He's tried to absolutely turn himself into James Brown since the mid 1980s.
